What do you believe are the 'burning issues' today?: War, Hunger, Poverty, Education, Our Planet, Human Rights

So what is it?: Religions teaching hate is the most current danger to peace, and countries promoting patriotism, both increase divisions between people. Economic disparities finally cause upheaval. A strong middle class, where all the people have a piece of the pie (so to speak), is the only way true and lasting peace can happen. If everyone has enough to eat and feels secure and does not feel that they need to be and do special things to gain God's favor, then peace can endure.

More: Religions that teach that their way is the only way, and that all others are evil, or will go to hell, and God does not love them equally. Most people do need to feel that they are better than others, so this works quite well for the religious leaders and gives them power and riches.
Political territories do the same thing and call it patriotism.

Thanks for the friend request. Accepted with pleasure. I believe that originally none of the religions taught hate or intolerance but now too many "religious" leaders teach this. Sad. I agree with you completely about countries also promoting this in the name of patriotism.

In the Quran, Allah (God the Creator) says, "...I created you nations and tribes so that you may know one another (not that you may despise one another). Verily the most honored of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous among you... (49-13)

Thank you for inviting me to be your friend. I also agree with your ideas. How tragic that the one thing - religion- that should bring us the most peace and spiritual growth has so often divided us and turned us against each other and stifled our spirituality. I have struggled for many years to find my own spirituality and a belief system that makes sense to me and that is congruent with my life experiences - I have tried to find the common themes in the many religions of the world and they seem to be peace, love and unity. That is why I believe that we are in an evolutionary process toward our greater good - and that we have a ways to go. I believe that iPeace will help us get there.
