More: Religion breeds intolerance, fear, and prejudice. "What isn't the same as me is wrong." Taken to the extreme, this becomes fanatacism and thus the statement becomes, "What isn't the same as me is wrong and those holding these beliefs must be destroyed."
Fanatical belief systems are nearly impossible to irradicate, as there only needs to be one believer to keep the movement alive - look at the Nazis. It's over 60 years later and there are still believers.
