Most wars are due to greed/ colonialism/ neo-imperialism, but each violent conflict is different. The chief obstacle in Israel is fear; lack of responsibility and a victim mentality in Israel and Palestine. The largely unquestioned virtue of greed in the modern age is tied up with ideas about progress and power. Globalization and the breakdown of ideologies destabilise moral sensibilities. Together, modern greed and destabilised morality allow people around the world to use political problems in other countries as a gauge for their own morality. By projecting their values onto a foreign arena and trying to assert their limited power for 'good', these people unwittingly fuel hatred, fear and misunderstanding. They need to prioritise listening, understandling, engagment and peace rather than judging and taking sides. They need to look at themselves first.
Can we change the world?
Definitely
