More about me
YULIA's principles and values

My Vision
“To encourage, inspire and empower humanity to greater self love and the love of others through my creativity”

My Mission
“I achieve this by seeking to transform the self, living an inspired life in which my artistry reflects my life.”

My Values
“As a Christian my values are based around the principles of 1st Corinthians 13:4 - 8 and the proposition that love requires both action and personal transformation; patience, kindness, humility, kind, giving, honest, serving, persevering and forgiving.”

What are my reasons for believing in peace?

"I come from Volgograd, Russia."

"During my 16 years in Volgograd I personally witnessed and experienced domestic violence from an alcoholic father, the loss of a close friend and mentor to gunshot wounds that he brought back from Chechnya; an early morning bombing of the Military headquarters and the bombing of a building block in Volgograd’s CBD."

"I grew up knowing fear, so scared that every morning, when leaving our one-room flat for school, I would crawl against our apartment building’s wall with a torch in my hand panting heavily and looking out for any potential abusers, hiding in the darkness."

"At school I felt discriminated for my working class heritage, studying with the kids of “well to do” parents (because my Mum was a teacher at that school). My self-esteem lessened every day and it became somewhat normal to be physically and verbally abused at home as well as at school."

"Before long my favourite programs on TV became the likes of “Criminal Russia” where violence, murder and discrimination were everyday experiences for many citizens. Even now that I have left my Russian life far behind me I am afraid of the darkness and I am afraid of staying alone."

"However, amidst this obscurity I believed in God, who tirelessly showed me new ways to find Peace. God brought me to music through introducing me to the man, who later was wounded in Chechnya and died. That man became my mentor. He taught me to play the guitar and sing songs. I was now able to be at home, a little happier. I found peace in his soft voice singing along with me and encouraging me to write my own poetry and music. I still cried in front of TV watching disturbing local news but I knew that I now had purpose in life. Through music I could find and then communicate peace. I could find healing and I could be a source of healing for others."

"Even my Granddad - a communist, who’s beliefs denied the existence of God, loved listening to my songs about my imaginary place of peace."

"Through music and creative expression humanity discovers a common sense of spirituality and human emotion. I believe that by finding the peace within myself and developing a reflection of this expression through my creativity and artistry; that I can bring healing to people and help them to unlock their own sense of peace."

Why I feel that organisations like the Peace Foundation
are important in modern society

"If I am to believe in the principle of 1st Corinthians then I might also believe that societies can be transformed by the renewing of minds, by allowing humanity the choice of new experiences and to contemplate our values going forward."

"Organisations such as The Peace Foundation are important because as societies we often need to be reminded to remember the values that underpin our decisions as a people and as nations."

"I feel that questions are often more important than answers. Perhaps, in the light of the current global financial crisis we can ask questions about the underpinning values that lead to such a fall?"

"The Peace Foundation can play an important role in putting a focus on values, inspiring leaders to be strong in them. We can encourage nations to celebrate the riches of such values that lead to balanced decisions and focus on education that leads to sustainable outcomes that benefit all of our stakeholders."

"Lastly, my company name is Oikos Music Ltd. “Oikos” is the Greek word for “Harmony in the Household”. It has been understood for thousands of years by intelligent thinkers that we must think and act in such as way that everyone benefits. We must be the change that we want in the world."

TRANSLATION for the song "Russia"

Russia
(English Translation)

Music and Lyrics by Yulia
(Yulia MacLean)

Crops have not been gathered yet
From your fields,
Your land is striped with roads

The light-brown haired heads
Of your sons
Don’t appear light brown anymore,
But grey

Cloud… A smokey
Cloud of snow
Rises from the ground
And from the roads

Let your clear blue sky
Be everywhere I go

Chorus:

You’re my love – Russia
You’re my sorrow – Russia
You’re my fate – Russia
You’re my soul – Russia

Endless, endless forests
Are shivering
Silence, silence
Is throughout
Your land
But I can hear the
Voices of your bottomless rivers
And a drunken drone and
Your men’s delirium
Coming from afar…

Chorus:

Crops have not been gathered yet…
Your land is striped with roads…
The light-brown haired heads…
Don’t appear light brown anymore…

I do not know how to update settings so that my songs can be added to your pages. If someone can teach me this will be helpful.

I will be uploading new videos from the Human Rights Fiesta in Wellington, New Zealand including speeches and live performances.
