The poling that shows the candidates running neck and neck boggles my mind. What in the name of common sense are the citizens of this country thinking? After 8 disastrous years, including an ill-advised, immoral war with Iraq that has cost our country to date the loss of 4,155 U.S. Military Personnel (Officially acknowledged) in the U.S. War And Occupation Of Iraq . And 1,255,026 of Iraqi’s Slaughtered in the US War And Occupation Of Iraq. And millions of more Iraqi’s displaced and living in dire circumstances. Add to that the Cost of the U.S. War and Occupation of Iraq $551,795,808,271. That monumental figure will be around the necks of our grandchildren and great grandchildren for years to come.

And, yes I am calling it an ill advised, immoral war, because that is exactly what it was. It was planed long before the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. If you don’t believe me check it out for yourself. The Project for the New American Century (PNAC) was an American neoconservative think tank based in Washington, D.C., co-founded in early 1997 as "a non-profit educational organization" by William Kristol and Robert Kagan. The PNAC's stated goal is "to promote American global leadership." Fundamental to the PNAC are the views that "American leadership is both good for America and good for the world" and support for "a Reaganite policy of military strength and moral clarity." It has exerted strong influence on high-level U.S. government officials in the administration of U.S President George W. Bush and strongly affected the George Bush administration's development of military and foreign policies, especially involving national security and the Iraq War. If you do check PNAC out for yourself please notice how many members of the organization were also members of the Bush Administration.

And what about the true state of U.S. economy and how did we get this way? Well jJust take a good look at the current U.S. economic crisis. By the end of this year, 20 million Americans could have mortgages worth more than the value of their homes. 63,000 jobs were lost last month, the biggest drop since July 2003. And the U.S. dollar continues to weaken. I ask you “Has our economy already slipped into recession?“

And yet one half of the citizens of this great land still want to continue with the failed Bush policy under John McCain. Frankly, I just don’t get it!

Thanks for your responses friends. I agree that a vote for Ralph Nader just help McCain. Too bad, but I'm afraid it's true.

Mary,

The 2000 PRESIDENTIAL POPULAR VOTE SUMMARY is at http://www.fec.gov/pubrec/fe2000/prespop.htm.

The raw figures indicate that had Ralph Nader (Green) not run, Al Gore (Democrat) may well have defeated George W. Bush (Republican) in such a close election. I don't know what impact that would have really had on the overall Electoral College votes. Nevertheless, even we just limit this thought to the close result in Florida, it is clear that Nader just helped George W. Al Gore would probably have been better for us all than George W. and his Texas Oil Mafia.

Hi Earl

Kinda hard to disagree with you Earl. :-) So I won't. Whoever the next President is will have a very difficult time coping with US economy and social injustices within the US. As for the rest of the world? Forget it! The US should just focus in healing itself. I hope that Obama will do some of that. Even McCain might.
