There's a great deal of misunderstanding of the 100 years old Israeli Palestinian conflict. There's a great deal of disinformation about it in iPeace today. And there's a great deal of manipulation end exploitation of the situation, some of it very cynical.

Here's part of a message I and 45 others received yesterday:

"Israel is the attacker since centuries ago - Jews dont have a land and thats a fact. and they have made protocols and through them have prepared Everything until this very day for this to happen. it doesn't happen because of a dead Israeli or a few bombs... its a plan!!! to destroy Palestinians once and for all... its been carried out in steps and they are very clear to those following the news correctly (so not from TV) and who know... this is pure denocide and it has to stop NOW."

"no one should worry about Jews! they are wealthy and free and happy - and rich and fat with their big cars and small hearts...be assured they are taken care of.

now - can we go back to poor Palestinians who are tortured and squeezed like rats in one small hole and now killed in hundreds.... evey day! thank YOU"

Needless to say that the sender is no longer with us, but there are more like her, and they influence those who don't know.

The reason that I am writing this to you is what I read on the comment wall of Noa's blog: "a letter to my Palestinian brothers in Gaza"

If I have any credibility with you, I will tell you this: There are very few fiercer and more determined peace warriors than Noa. Not Annie Lennox, not Bono and not Yoko Ono. Period. They are just more famous than her.

Noa has dedicated her life to peace activism. She is constantly taking risks to fulfill her dream of a peaceful Middle East. Many in her country think her a traitor for that. You can read about it HERE

Even a peace warrior may speak his mind. That's all what she did, in a sensitive and compassionate fashion. She said what she believes is the truth. She said what many Arab leaders say publicly.

And she got showered with comments that she does not deserve. I think that this is not the way we should treat someone who should be our hero.

She wrote you a comment in response:

"i have read some of your comments and all make me very sad, even the compassionate ones, as they are full of sorrow. sorry i share.

to those of you who claim i do not know history, i will say, unfortunately i do. i know it well. i know israel's part in establishing organizations like hamas to counter other organizations she found to be negative, i also know that things that start one way often end another. sometimes for better, sometimes for worse.

as i have said, i am a well known critic of my country. i think she has acted stupidly on countless accounts.

but i also know this: israel wants peace. israel does not want gaza. israel pulled out of gaza at great expense and dismantled its settlements there. israel wants to exist. deserves to exist.

our situation is complicated, so complicated.

once, israelis could be imprisoned for talking to the PLO. Abie Natan, founder of 'the voice of peace' radio station that we loved so much, was such a victim.

today, the PLO are as accepted as the Likud. today, everyone knows a Palestinian state will exist, it is only a matter of finalizing the deal, and all this, with MANY players with BIG interests, oil, water, power, weapons, control, religion, all the cholera you can imagine.

in the midst of all this, people die.

no, i am not comparing traumatized children to dead ones, what warped mind would assume that (chris..?)

no, i do not wish Hamas dead, i just want them to stop terrorizing gaza and israel. from my point of view, they could all go sit on the beach somewhere and have a couple of tequilas. i just want them far away from me and all peace lovers on both sides of the fence, UNLESS they choose dialogue over violence.

but most of all, MOST of all, i want us all to just STOP this madness!!

stop the killing on BOTH sides!! stop the propaganda! stop the hatred! PLEASE!!!!!!!

please...."

Yes, Lynda, you are hitting the nail on the head. It isn't about 'here', because 'here' is broken. It is about 'there'. What is 'there' that we talk about? It isn't nations with boundaries and treaties. All treaties are bound to dissolve. One act of aggression and it is gone. That holds true for this conflict, and all conflicts in the history of man. When two social units bump up against each other without higher laws to answer to, they inevitably resort to war. It is our way.

So how do we get to 'there'? We need a higher system of law and order to answer to. All of us on the entire planet Earth. When conflicting social units defer to a higher law, there is peace. No one has a right to hurt the person next to them, yet without a higher law they can get away with it and so they may choose to do it.

The United States of America used to have great clashes between the states, between the territories, between the North and the South. These were eliminated by relegating the safety and security of all citizens to a Federal body of law. It is working, overall. There will always be conflict, but where there is law, there is freedom of actions and peace within it.

The nations of Europe have had conflicts for hundreds of years. They are experiencing a period of cooperation, interaction, growth and peace because of the European Union, which provides a higher court and a common currency. These are the actions that can take us 'there'.

Can we get 'there'? I believe that we can. In every nation today we have corruption in government, but many of them have a great law that is abided by, and social units that had previously lived by aggression and war, now live together in relative peace, relative enough to find prosperity and happiness with their neighbors.

I abhore what is happening in the Middle East, it sickens my heart, yet it is going to happen over and over again until we have a higher court to answer to with universal laws. How about the 10 Commandments? They are a great place to start.

In love and hope,

Seth

People don't want to listen to words of Peace and Love untill it's too late.
Words of War are on their lips these days,as they have been for way too long.
John Lennon said it in it's most simple of terms..."GIVE PEACE A CHANCE"
I know...the Holy Land, the Promised Land yadda yadda...
You can't take any with you when you pass on, can you?
They won't allow a U-haul trailer into the "Pearly Gates",will they?
and who cares what color skin?...we ALL Bleed RED...
just Stop the Hate,Stop the Fighting,Stop the Wars.
Stop being selfish and Share this planet,
it's the Only planet we have...
For the Sake of Peace, Love and LIFE...

Peace'd be Nice
I push for Peace in all that I do,
we need a truce between me and you,
we need to get humble,or our world will crumble,
For Peace I speak out,to leave you no doubt,
I've seen the crashes and I've seen them Rumble,
don't sit on your asses or sit and mumble,
ashes to ashes if we just watch it crumble...
I push for Peace in all that I do,
we're going to Hell in a Handbasket,
the world me and you,
In a world full of greed,in a world full of need,
we need to find peace,it's Red We All Bleed,
Conflict and War should be a Thing of the Past,
PLEASE,find a solution for A True Peace to Last...
So I speak up for Peace, for the World, Me and You,
I speak up for peace in everything I do,
Because I Love my LIFE,Humanity,I love even You,
I write a poem,or a song for a dance,
anything I can,Just Give Peace a Chance,
While our world is turning, more than Passion is burning,
and something to think of...we kill of everything that we love,
it's awfully harming with global warming,
Yes,melting the polar ice,
Be Cheerfully Charming,even Heart Warming,
Yes,I think Peace'd be nice...

As peacemakers, may we hold the vision of love always, may we spread our wings and love the ones who are in need. There is no right or wrong, but for the ones that are suffering, everyone, we must be there... Only the light that we receive is ultimately helping to restore some peace.
I send love to all that are supporting this planet and i send love to all the anger, confusion, sadness and i pray that the prayers are answered for all and that each one can feel a little bit of peace and be still .....
Love precious humanity, we must ... we are all one, and we contain it all.
We know that by us holding the torch for peace and not war we can support maybe one soul, one being and we support the crystaline energy that so wants to move in now and bring peace.

hi lahcen-
it is not empathy i lack-
i come from a people who have been oppressed, vilified, murdered for simply being different. I have watched a people lose their sense of humanity under the rule of others who had not learned the lessons of their fathers. I have my own stories to tell on these lines, but to do so now in this forum would be wholely inappropriate.

the people who suffer now, their pain is deep and it is deafening. but if we only look from the view of what is "mine" versus "theirs", we lose that which is most precious- we lose each other. and to me that is a cost i am not willing to pay. no matter what, for me it is vital to keep that precious flame lit.

I truly believe that hate is learned, that love is innate. that without hope the world is too dark a place. this place, ipeace, to me is meant to be a place of hope- especially in the dark times. it's easy to speak of unity and love and forgiveness when it's sunny out. but when it's dark and difficult and painful (as it is right now)- this is when we need to speak of hope. of cease fires. of sharing. of the eradication of hate. and of lands filled with neighbors helping neighbors and ultimately, living in peace.

this may seem naive, foolish, even childlike. i'm okay with that. would that others could embrace that child within them as well...

What is "PEACE"
for some ... equal distribution of goods
for others ... the absence of open fighting with weapons
...or ... not too much noise on some problems

for Likud leaders .... a calm cementary in Gaza

Hy david

As much i respect ipeace, I feel you are choosing site for someone of your own countrey. We are all one, and everyone has the right of free expresion. I also felt that what noa does is fighting, so it is very normal their will be reactions on it. and that it will be a fight. and that some people will choose here side. and some an other side. Those who are able to not judge and keep on loving also those who are fighting, dominant or victim.

my heroes are all of you. not especially noa. really not. I do not believe in such kind of idiolism. because it is the base of separation.

You are all heroes, and deeply inside underneath that layer of dominance and victim you all know you are.

moustafa,

i believe the idea that peace requires justice is part of an older paradigm. i believe peace requires love and faith and forgiveness. ego requires justice.

as i said in my post, i'm not trying to invalidate your feelings or the tragedy of what's going on. i am saying that buying in to the "us versus them" mindset will only separate us all more. and that at least here perhaps we have a possibility to stop the divisiveness and talk about ways to come together and bring about peace sooner than later.
