Hi friends please can you help me to engineer the release of Mao Hengfeng - a women who is currently in prison and who has been serving lengthy jail sentences for years because of her continued peaceful petitioning against her forced abortion. She has been subject to inhumane practises such as torture and force feeding.
By copy/pasting the letter below and sending to gazette@mail.gov.cn will help to pressurise the government for her release. by the way the letter was written by people at amnesty international, not me! if you could get some of your friends to send off copies as well that would be terrific because the greater the number of emails sent the greater the pressure will be on the Chinese government. :)
To Prime Minister, Wen Jiabao Zongli
Dear Prime Minister:
I write to you regarding Mao Hengfeng, who is currently serving two and a half years in prison for allegedly breaking two table lamps. She has been detained numerous times in the last decade because of petitions she filed regarding her dismissal from work, a forced abortion required by a Shanghai court, and her denial of other basic rights including the right to freedom of expression. She reportedly has been subjected to torture and ill-treatment in the past, especially during a period of detention in a “Reeducation through Labor” camp from 2004 to 2005. Now she is being held for a crime that appears to merely a pretext for her ongoing petitioning activities.
I urge you to obtain Mao's immediate and unconditional release. While she continues in detention, please ensure that she is not tortured or ill-treated and that she has full access to a lawyer, her family, and any necessary medical care.
Amnesty International considers Mao Hengfeng to be a prisoner of conscience since her actions have been non-violent. I also urge you to see that Mao Hengfeng and other human rights activists are allowed to carry out their legitimate, peaceful human rights activities without fear of arbitrary detention, torture or ill-treatment, or other human rights violations
Sincerely,
(end of letter)
forward this to your friends to spread the word and aid the cause
