Isn't it phenomenal
That a guy no one would hire
To teach anywhere in Europe
A guy who worked full time
At the Swiss Patent Office
Was able to outperform
The best minds in physics
At the most prominent
Universities in Europe
To such a degree
That we don't even remember
Their names today?

One man working alone
Outside the intellectual establishment
That had rejected him
Came up with the most astounding
Theories the world has ever known
Theories that changed
Our understanding of reality
To such an extent
That you can literally say
There is before Einstein
And there is after Einstein
No one else even comes close
His genius stands alone

When he wasn't working at the office
When he wasn't too busy having sex
With his new bride
When he wasn't fulfilling
The duties of a young father
He found the time
To work on some equations
To throw together a few theories
Theories that were so extraordinary
The most brilliant minds in physics
Weren't able to collectively comprehend
The truth he was asserting
About the laws that govern the universe

He published his revolutionary theories
Shortly after he turned 26 years old
Thus, he probably had most of it
If not all of it
Figured out at a much earlier age

For me the real question is
How young was he
When he had the foundations of his quest
To understand light in place?

We can only guess
And I am not one to speculate
But it probably took him
A good amount of time
To check his math
And recheck it again and again
To make sure he was absolutely certain
That his theories were correct
Before he published his findings

Previous to publishing his findings
It probably took him a little while
To decide how he wanted to proceed
Letting the world know
That many of the scientific theories
They believed in
Were nothing short of flat out wrong

The famous image of the wise
Old scientist with electrified hair
A man that looks as though
The cosmos itself touched his thoughts
After laboring for countless years
In his laboratory simply isn't true

The truth is much more amazing than that
He did it in his spare time
When he was in his early twenties
If not younger
It's possible
That by the time he was a teenager
He already had a great deal of it put together
That's a staggering thought isn't it?
