FOLLOWING GOD IN TOUGH TIMES
DORSEY MARSHALL
"In the world you shall have tribulation:
but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
John 16:33
We all go through tough times! We all go through the valley of the shadow of death. Life is a combination of values and satisfaction, defeats and victories, failures and successes, and mountains and valleys. God wants us to trust Him in every circumstance! Valleys represent the crisis of life! God is the God of the mountaintops, but He's also God in the valley! God is our Solution in tough times! Jesus said we will have tough times! Let me share with you three facts I've discovered about tough times:
Tough times are inevitable! Valleys (Crisis) are a part of life! Every time you climb a mountain, a valley lies ahead. Jesus said if you live in the world, you will have afflictions. No one is exempt from problems. Good and bad people have problems. For God's follower, every valley is a path of transition toward something better. Going through tough times doesn't mean we are bad people; it just means we are people.
Valleys are seasonal! Problems and crisis are not eternal; they have a beginning and an end. "Though I walk through" implies movement. We may go through a valley, but we don't live in the valley. The valley is not a time to abandon God or His principles; they still work! The point is… will you continue to trust God when you can't see how it's all going to work out? It will work out, you know?
Valleys are not an accident! Valleys complete a purpose. Nothing in life is an accident. Everything happens for a reason. Maybe, there's something to learn. Every problem has purpose; faith is developed in life's valleys. God cares more about our character than our comfort level. God cares more about our healing than our happiness. God wants to form Christ's character in us!
What should we do, when we go through tough times? Refuse discouragement; I will fear no evil! To be controlled by fear, or put our faith in God, is not an accident. It's a decision! Discouragement… or confidence is always the result of a decision! We may not be able to invade a valley, but we can walk through it without fear. How do we decide not to fear or be discouraged? Focus on God, not the situation! Walk with people who will encourage you! Just don't quit!
WISDOM WORD: "Though our feelings come and go, God's love for us does not." ~ C.S. Lewis
MY PRAYER FOR TODAY: "Father, my confidence is in You. Give me strength to keep going on without fear, In Jesus' Name, Amen!"
JESUS CHRIST THE SAME YESTERDAY, AND TO DAY, AND FOR EVER.
