This is a continuation of a post I made about a week ago where I stated I wanted to look at each of my opponent's division as I played through 30 or so games.

I have been hovering around division 3 for a few weeks now so I thought it would be the perfect time to look at where my opponents are in relation to me.

On my previous post, somewhere in the comments, I ventured a guess at what the final picture would be. I predicted that, in general, when I strung a few wins together I would begin to see opponents from the higher division. On the flip side, I thought when I strung a few losses or draws together I would see opponents from divisions below me. I expected a few anomalies here and there as I understand EA tries to match with geographically closer players if possible and has an ELO matchmaking system but I didn't expect what I ended up getting.

Out of 30 matches, more matches (17) were played against players outside my division than within my division (13). That's 57%. As for results, I won 50% of my games against opponents in my division and won 53% of games against opponents outside my division. As I would expect (and hope), my win percent against opponents in lower divs (67%) is higher than against opponents in higher divs (50%).

I realize there are several factors that contributed to the erratic nature of the results of this "experiment". The major one certainly has to be the ELO rating system. When you consider such a system and look at how 57% of my games were against people not in my division (let the Greg Lestrade references commence), it begs the question Why did EA bother creating a division system in the first place? Another major contributing factor (one I idiotically didn't consider before) is the system I am playing on - the Xbox One. It is early days for the console and as you would expect, many people have waited until the new year and beyond to buy the Xbone. This would explain why I was being beaten in some cases by players in the 4th, 5th, and 6th divisions, as they may be good players but have yet to reach their highest point in divisions.

What this experiment has made me realize is the division system is pointless and without being able to see my skill rating used your Fifa 16 account, ensuring I get matched up against a similarly skilled player in my division is impossible. I am even more assured by these findings that EA over-regulates seasons mode in FUT and simply taking away the ELO system will go a long way to settling players in a proper division in relation to their skill.

I plan to do something similar right from the start (or maybe a few months later) on FUT 15 where the environment should be more settled due to the fact that no consoles are being released this year. I'll likely get the same thing I did here but it is interesting to me personally to see my stats over hundreds of matches and hope you all can learn something from this as well. I'm open to constructive criticism so please, feel free to comment.
