It is a farce to call any market subject to central bank manipulation "free." So what we have had since 1913, and arguably through much of the 19thcentury with the First and Second Banks of the United States followed by the National Banking scheme, has not strictly been a free market. Therefore, regulating what we have is simply regulating a standing intervention; it is intervention to fix intervention that will most certainly promise future intervention. Without the ability to create massive sums of money at will, a government operating the way the federal government currently does would be compelled to resort to oppressive levels of taxation, drawing greater attention to just exactly what the government is spending on and risking revolt. The whole thing is a canard, a slight-of-hand, and you can count on welfare-staters and warfare-staters alike to circle the wagons around this particular institution for the insulation it gives them from the taxpayers. Simply put, if there were no Fed, the tap root of EVERY modern unconstitutional government activity would be gone.
