Here's a short film I did based around an interview with a Hiroshima Survivor. It was part of a series of short films that later became part of my featured documentary, Scared Sacred.

The Hiroshima Peace Site website gives a figure of 140,000 deaths by December 1945, out of a population of 350,000.

How many died at Hiroshima?
[While writing a page on the Enola Gay kerfluffle, I searched the web for a definitive figure for those killed at Hiroshima by the "Little Boy" uranium bomb on August 6, 1945. I found figures ranging from 65,000 to 200,000, with the larger figures generally attached to the most recent writings. Astonishingly, there just doesn't seem to be any scholarly study of this subject, but only proclamations by people with a stake in the matter. -- Dan Ford]
The Manhattan Engineer District survey
In 1946, the Manhattan Engineer District published a study that concluded that 66,000 people were killed at Hiroshima out of a population of 255,000. Of that number, 45,000 died on the first day and 19,000 during the next four months. In addition, "several hundred" survivors were expected to die from radiation-induced cancers and leukemia over the next 30 years. (This report is also known as the Oughterson Commission study.)
the threat or freedom from nuclear war is not over. I thought Hiroshima would teach the world but it seems tht those that did not live through this experience or where not aware still today do not hesitate to push the button. I wish peace where a stronger and the suffering not forgotten.
The Navy and Marine Corps suffered a total of 2,896 casualties of which 2,117 were deaths (Navy 2,008, Marines 109) and 779 wounded (Navy 710, Marines 69). The Army (as of midnight, 10 December) lost 228 killed or died of wounds, 113 seriously wounded and 346 slightly wounded. In addition, at least 57 civilians were killed and nearly as many seriously injured.
The Japanese lost 29 planes over Oahu, one large submarine (on 10 December), and all five of the midget submarines. Their personnel losses (according to Japanese sources) were 55 airmen, nine crewmen on the midget submarines, and an unknown number on the large submarines. The Japanese carrier task force sailed away undetected and unscathed. The USA Wounded where 1178, The sadness is war. The sadness is all those that where hurt.
I believe the sadness is that civilians where hurt.
My heart goes to those in Hiroshima. My heart also goes to teh USA Army, Navy and Marines that died and where wounded. I wonder how their family felt? I wonder what was it like to not have any alarm and to drwon?
It is war that hurts all of us and anger is usually the silent voice that is not her.
I thought your film was very beutiful. I have a dep love of Japan and I also feel teh way that Japanese people where treated after teh war. So much suffering. Healing to all. It also reminds me of the constant threat of war and I do wish that those that want to wr reALIZE THE IMPACT OF NUCLEAR WR FARE.

Isn't this horrible, terrifying, horrible, terrifying? Well, if the world does not wake up, maybe we have to shake it into the realization, that this is what Iran is planning for Israel, and maybe more countries, and what North Korea is planning and probably more crazy leaders.. True, your testimony is brought to us in a most aesthetic, poetic way, but the gentle Japanese survivor's testimony leaves my heart beat with fear!!
