Mantra at the beginning of Yoga and Ayurveda Class

In most Yoga Traditions some Mantra is chanted at the beginning of a Yoga Class or at the beginning of Ayurveda Massage. The following Mantra invokes the healing energy of Yogi Patanjali Maharishi , author of the Yoga Sutra who lived about 2000 years ago. You can listen to the Mantra or you can chant along. Yogena Chittasya Padena Vacha
Malam Sharirasya Cha Vaidya Kena
Yopakarotham Pravaram Muninam
Patanjalim Pranjali Ranatosmi

Roughly translated the meaning is as follows:
I salute the great Master Patanjali. He taught Yoga to heal the mind. He taught Ayurveda to heal the body. He taught the Mantras for healing on all levels. I salute you again and again - may I attain freedom

This Mantra can be chanted at the beginning of a Yoga Class, or at its end. It can be recited before study of Raja Yoga, before meditation and before learning Sanskrit. Some teachers chant it at the beginning of a Yoga Class. It is supposed to strengthen mental powers. More Mantras...
