My childhood dream from before I was ten years old was to conduct an orchestra. It seems a little wierd as most kids would want to be the next rock star or police man but not me. I wanted to conduct an orchestra playing my music... a symphony.

I didn't listen to rock and roll growing up, my mom played flute, my dad played clarinet, my brother, violin, sister, cello and my other sister played guitar. Yes I heard of rock and roll via Billy Joel and Elton John but I would rather have listened to a symphony.

I was different and a little strange in that way and at first to fit in I would fake like I enjoyed J. Geils Band or the new band called Def Lepard. I would rather play a piece on the piano, until later I slowly became a rock and roller by the time I was thirteen or so but not at first. Usually, your first dreams are the ones that mean the most and that is why conducting an orchestra playing my symphonies is still a dream of mine.

In order for my childhood dream to come into fruition I needed to write a symphony of some sort. I came up with an idea called the 11 Hour Symphony. It really will be 11 hours long if I ever complete it. About a year ago I began it and wrote the main themes for the first four hours of it and completed the first three suites. I wasn't happy with the results I was getting.

I wondered for a while what I needed to do. Obviously, I wasn't musically inclined to write a symphony. I needed to teach myself what it takes to write the music. How do you do that? Learn from the best and emulate them. Who in my opinion is the best at writing symphonies? Beethoven. He is the Metallica of classical music. He is the person who wrote music to shake buildings and he is the one that I enjoyed listening to the most.

So how do I learn the theories that made Beethoven write great symphonies? I recreate them on my own note for note and listen to the different melodies and how they interact with each other and what modes they flow into. I have begun recording the Beethoven symphonies to learn the nuances and arrangements that create grand symphonies.

That is why I have created this blog. I have finished the first part of his first symphony and am going to share it with you. Some of the music sounds great and some of it sounds, as it was created, by a computer, but I worked hard on it and am loading it up for your listening.
