Yes I think it is so much easier to understand ourselves but also what is going on around us, if we know a little about this phenomena ; Projections
It was very useful also in my work with children. They often used the animals as projection objects. A rather common and a very obvious one is when the child says to the dog in the basket, Poor you... here you are laying all alone and nobody cares about you... And he/she starts to clap and pat it, in the eyes of others, quite contented dog.
Then we knew for sure, who felt lonely :)
