SHALOM TO ALL THE BEAUTIFUL ISRAELIANS AND ARABS SUFFERING THE ONGOING WAR ANXIETY.

This is my answer to Noa’s soulful letter.

We need to insist as citizens of the world on non-violent solutions to these conflicts, is the Destruction of Hamas the answer? It will inevitably create more hatred through-out the zone.

I am surprised and blessed to read all the comments from the IPeace members, their depth and intelligence is amazing, but we need to be more creative.

I am honored to say Israelian jews are amongst my best friends, I tell YOU MY FRIENDS: pressure your government to take a different perspective on the conflict. As individuals a TO DO LIST: adopt a muslim orphan, help rebuild a muslim house, employ an arab in your business. Test your love to human beings to the limit: BUILD A MOSQUE. (Would you do it? I'm catholic, but I would)

As long as the First World keeps denying that the true cause of TERRORISM is poverty, which fuels fanatism, this will never end. Hamas might be destroyed just to be substituted by a new organization.
Equality, tolerance, a new world order that will bring richness to under-privileged families around the world is a better way to end conflict. Think about it for one moment, for how long has the war approach being tried without success? Centuries, right?

Take an example, Ireland suffered both the catholic and protestant fanatism and terrorism, as soon as it was granted autonomy from England which brought wealth to their country, and people truly felt they had the opportunity to achieve the SAME lifestyle the British citizens enjoyed, the conflict ENDED.

I know some of you might respond by saying that the 9/11 Terrorist cells recruited college educated, middle class muslims, and that religious differences instead of poverty is the real cause of the conflict, but this middle class youngsters are continuously presented at the terrorist camps with images of the hunger and inequality that the muslim families have to endure as the western world with their “FALSE GOD” is creating in their countries.

How could they convince this young people of hating Jews or Christians if we start practicing CHARITY towards them, treating them like equals, respecting how they dress, or what they believe in?

Muslims as Noa said, need to take responsibility on their hands by tolerating other religions, but our responsibility is to help them flourish as human beings.

As humans our fear to lose our social or economical status cripples us. Let’s all stop fearing we will lose our power by sharing the wealth with different societies, if there is a group that can bring this change to the world is the
CHOSEN PEOPLE OF ISRAEL.

I pray to God he will enlighten you and the rest of us by bringing compassion to this war, to view the arabs as your brothers that are blinded by body and soul POVERTY. What a privilege you have CHOSEN ONES! You were granted with God’s word in THE TORAH.

On the 21st century, use this incredible power, your intellectual and soul superiority to help the people in need, your half brothers, THE OTHER descendents of Abraham, the sons of ISHMAEL.
I KNOW YOU HAVE THE HEART.

Please do not turn to our "superiority".

Our capability of helping, our responsibility to all men created in the image of G-d..These are the proper addresses for your plea.

I feel we are blessed to live in a country where facing the call for mutual respect and honor is a daily challenge. Answering the call is our blessing.

Thanks for reading and commenting on my blog, I do have to disagree on your concept of Terrorism which is so hard to define that organizations around the world haven't been able to define, as the UN through multiple conferences. Africa is a great example of how terrorism expressed in multiple forms creates conflict, I'm posting a link to an article about this by the OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR OF NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE of the US where they explain Africa's overall situation for the next decades, the good news is that organizations like Hamas won't be able to recruit people there, but they will be granted assylum. http://www.dni.gov/nic/confreports_africa_future.html, I'm quoting an excerpt by the United Nations on why they can't quite define what Terrorism is:

The United Nations states that "The question of a definition of terrorism has haunted the debate among states for decades. A first attempt to arrive at an internationally acceptable definition was made under the League of Nations, but the convention drafted in 1937 never came into existence. The UN Member States still have no agreed-upon definition. Terminology consensus would, however, be necessary for a single comprehensive convention on terrorism, which some countries favour in place of the present 12 piecemeal conventions and protocols. The lack of agreement on a definition of terrorism has been a major obstacle to meaningful international countermeasures. Cynics have often commented that one state's "terrorist" is another state's "freedom fighter"." Proposed definitions include:

1. League of Nations Convention (1937): "All criminal acts directed against a State and intended or calculated to create a state of terror in the minds of particular persons or a group of persons or the general public".
2. UN Resolution language (1999):"1. Strongly condemns all acts, methods and practices of terrorism as criminal and unjustifiable, wherever and by whomsoever committed; 2. Reiterates that criminal acts intended or calculated to provoke a state of terror in the general public, a group of persons or particular persons for political purposes are in any circumstance unjustifiable, whatever the considerations of a political, philosophical, ideological, racial, ethnic, religious or other nature that may be invoked to justify them". (GA Res. 51/210 Measures to eliminate international terrorism)
3. Short legal definition proposed by Alex P. Schmid to United Nations Crime Branch (1992): Act of Terrorism = Peacetime Equivalent of War Crime
4. Academic Consensus Definition: "Terrorism is an anxiety-inspiring method of repeated violent action, employed by (semi-) clandestine individual, group or state actors, for idiosyncratic, criminal or political reasons, whereby - in contrast to assassination - the direct targets of violence are not the main targets. The immediate human victims of violence are generally chosen randomly (targets of opportunity) or selectively (representative or symbolic targets) from a target population, and serve as message generators. Threat- and violence-based communication processes between terrorist (organization), (imperilled) victims, and main targets are used to manipulate the main target (audience(s)), turning it into a target of terror, a target of demands, or a target of attention, depending on whether intimidation, coercion, or propaganda is primarily sought" (Schmid, 1988).[14]

United Nations Security Council Resolution 1373 discusses terrorism and is a primary UN authority for terrorism because it was issued under Chapter VII UN authority.

Resolution 1566 gives a definition:

criminal acts, including against civilians, committed with the intent to cause death or serious bodily injury, or taking of hostages, with the purpose to provoke a state of terror in the general public or in a group of persons or particular persons, intimidate a population or compel a government or an international organization to do or to abstain from doing any act.
—UN Security Council Resolution 1566

On March 17, 2005, a UN panel described terrorism as any act "intended to cause death or serious bodily harm to civilians or non-combatants with the purpose of intimidating a population or compelling a government or an international organization to do or abstain from doing any act."[15]

The General Assembly resolution 49/60,[16], titled "Measures to Eliminate International Terrorism," adopted on December 9, 1994, contains a provision describing terrorism:
“ Criminal acts intended or calculated to provoke a state of terror in the general public, a group of persons or particular persons for political purposes are in any circumstance unjustifiable, whatever the considerations of a political, philosophical, ideological, racial, ethnic, religious or any other nature that may be invoked to justify them.[17]

I believe this would clearly include the racial cleansing that has happened again and again in Africa, or the many ongoing civil wars.

My point is, social integration and wealth distribution MUST become one of the solutions to the conflict in Israel.

Poverty does not cause terrorism, otherwise most of the terrorist activities would be occurring frequently in the poorest countries of the world, which happen to be located in Africa. In terms of per capita GDP, there are in fact 20 countries which are much poorer than the Gaza strip. Moreover I have visited one country where its per capital GDP is only 72% of that the Gaza strip and there is no terrorism.

The historical reality is that terrorism result from an organization's ideology, where violence becomes an end in itself, and an ideology which believes in forcing people to accept its viewpoint.. Before, Hamas began using terrorist tactics against Israelis, it used terrorist tactics against Palestinian women who rejected its particular view of the role of women (namely assassination of women who advocated equality for women and rejected Islamic dress) For reference see http://books.google.com/books?id=tH_ThgVEoAcC&pg=PA380&vq=hamas&dq=inauthor:%22Judith+Miller%22&lr=&as_brr=0&as_pt=ALLTYPES&source=gbs_search_s&cad=0

Sri Lanka is another area of the world where the Tamil Tigers use terrorist tactics simllar to Hamas. Furthermore, the Tamil Tigers perhaps "invented" the tactic of suicide bombers. Poverty is not the cause, but the "worship" of violence.

A note to all muslim readers: When I refer to "being poor in body and soul", I think of violence supporters, not Islam believers, many blogs on IPeace give testimony of people's greatness inside and outside Ghaza. My respect and support to all of you.

How eloquently put Elizabeth - and how right you are, I believe. I'm a Unitarian Universalist and we believe that tolerance for all beliefs is a cornerstone of peace; above all things, the worth and dignity of the individual is so important. I have little to add to your wonderful post. If only those in conflict could bring themselves to extend such generosity of spirit, it would come back to them a hundred fold...at least, that is what I believe.

Thank for for directing me to your blog.

This is the part I endorse: "...our responsibility is to help them flourish as human beings."
