Struggle
By
Matthew Powell
Because of sin, of the first of us, life is a struggle.
Throughout our lives we ask “why?” “What did we do?”
No clear answer for this to be found, not by me.
The only Truth to be found is by the First Adam we were in chains,
By the Second we’ve been set free.
This reason alone, it seems, might be enough, but while we struggle,
We still ask “why?” “Why me?” Even if we know the Prince of Peace
Has set us free.
Through much of our lives, we march through the “Dark Night of the Soul,”
But on the other side, we learned that our trials helped to make us whole.
So when I venture into the Valley of Death, lost I may seem.
But at the Last Day, all struggle, strife, all the trials of life, fades into nothing.
As Our Father wipes away our tears, the memories of bad things disappear,
As if from a forgotten bad dream.
