A master who has hatred
Is en danger of being killed
Even by those who for their wealth
And happiness
Depend upon his kindness.
By it, friends and relatives are disheartened
Though drawn by my generosity they will not trust me.
In brief, there is nobody
Who lives happily with anger
Hence the enemy, anger.
Creates sufferings such as these.
But whoever assiduously overcomes it
Finds happiness now and hereafter.

Tashi Delek on this fine day in August. I liked your story. Yes we are sometimes so cruel for our elderly and miss the point of what is precious. Japan is a land of ironies..family traditions. Buddhist prayers for the ancestors are respected in the country side but are long forgotten in the city where the young are in a rush. The funny thing about Japan is that it takes its summer holiday all at the same time so that people can go back to their hometown and honor the departed ones. special food is cooked and lanturns lit and prayers spoken. August is a heavy season here. Both Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed, the prayers for the dead, the stifling heat and the harvest of rice. I pray that Tibetans everywhere will honor their elders and traditions. Native cultures in my country Canada put extra effort to keep this alive. The west has fallen from this grace and often the old are left alone to die. My heartfelt prayers to you Achung in this summer season hoping that the fall brings a good harvest for you in Dharamsala. I was there 15 years ago in the fall...such lovely weather....
