More: Rather a combination of factors with varying weight depending on the specific conflict/ issue, but having to choose ONE, then prejudice. Prejudice underlies group identity formation in the sense of being partially construed in opposition to aliens/ non-members who become stereotyped in a cultural process of simplification leading to categories which appear "natural" and "fixed" to community members. It is then fairly easy to slide into confrontational myths, dehumanising Others and magnifying events.
