When it comes to peace, how would you describe yourself?
I am a pacifist
What do you believe are the 'burning issues' today?
Poverty, Education, Our Planet, Violence, Human Rights
So what is it?
We must find a new way that honors all life and the environment.
What must we overcome to achieve peace?
We must re-educate ourselves to think of the whole community and the world and not just our own interests. A focus on a simpler life should be promoted. Technology should be used to enhance our lives but our main focus should be on people, not things.
Can we change the world?
More about me
I have finally come to a state of peace regarding some past traumas. I am currently studying the Great Peacemakers in order to start holding workshops to teach others.

I feel it is important to "walk the talk" in order to practise Peace.

9 Steps of Decreasing or Ending Violence based on Ghandi's Teachings as interpreted by Dudly Weeks

This is from a book by Coleman MCCarthy called "I'd Rather Teach Peace".

1) Define the Conflict

2) It's not you against me, it's you and me against the problem.

3) List the relationship's shared concerns.

4) When people have fought, don't ask what happened.

5) Active listening is better than passive hearing.

6) Choose a neutral place to resolve the conflict, not the battlefield itself.

7) Start with what's doable.

8) Increase forgiveness skills, decrease vengeance urges.

9) Purify our hearts.

I think most of these steps are easily understood by most people but #9 might need a little explaining. To purify our hearts means to clean up our own life before we tell someone else how to live. I must "walk my talk" and live a peaceful life with my family, community and environment before I can expect someone else to do it.

Hi Helen..beautifully simple but elegantly wise words to live by and embrace..While it is so often not what we desire to understand..it is often taking the best of what we understand..Then allowing what we know is wise and right..To become what we are willing to live for..in Love and Peace..
