When it comes to peace, how would you describe yourself?
I am a pacifist
What do you believe are the 'burning issues' today?
War, Hunger, Poverty, Education, Our Planet, Violence, Human Rights, Our Shrinking Freedom, Other
So what is it?
I'd add to the above: complacency, indifference, narrow-mindedness and poor models; also inequality, exploitation, and the acts of some power-and-profit-hungry governments/leaders; and a distorted set of individual and collective 'values' that make for a bad 'culture'.
What must we overcome to achieve peace?
Perhaps the biggest obstacle for peace is the history of war and violence; and the "teaching"/promotion of violence through the media.
"Histories of Peace, Love and Harmony" may need to be written and taught/studied in schools and universities.
We humans need to deal with violence in films, games, and throughout the media. We need to greatly reduce it. As it is right now, this "teaches" and promotes violence. Do we want this?
More documentaries and films, widely distributed, focusing on peace, harmony, friendship, beauty, nature/environment, Life, love, happiness, joy, bliss, sharing, benevolence, collaboration, compassion, respect, tolerance and celebration of diversity, responsibility, awareness and consciousness, equitable and sustainable business/development, etc,
could help people change their emotions, thoughts, expectations and level of vibration/resonance, overcome fears and barriers, and change their sense of what is possible, achievable and desirable, resulting in better social interactions and better 'cultures' in our world.
Peace comes from inside out. If one learns violence through the media and in its close environment, one can not be peaceful. If one is stressed, angry, hateful, out of balance and in disharmony, one can not be a vehicle of peace...
By expanding awareness, becoming peaceful within ourselves, and encouraging better/healthier beliefs, values, and models of behaviour between people, groups, societies, religions, cultures and countries, and by celebrating Life and its multicultural diversity, a culture of peace and harmony and a more collaborative, ethical and equitable development can be nurtured - from inside out. Let's help make it happen!
Can we change the world?
More about me
I might be an activist, but I'm also a friendly pacifist, one that feels the pain in the world..., and wants to do something about this...
On history, media, social learning, culture, peace, development and... us...

Thank you for the request, Liviu! Since I carry "a wee drap o' the Irish" in my heritage I am more than glad to accept. It is nice to see that you have joined "Barefoot Children." I look forward to seeing you there. *smile* --Christie
I see you are concerned about violence? So am I. My motto is that all that is needed for evil to prosper is for good men ...or women...to do nothing. People who refuse to work for change continue the cycle.
