16 communal decisions that members elected (1980) grameen bank around

THese days microcredit has become so popular with almost every big bank jumping in saying that it can temporarily beat the lending rates. This misses the point. First real microcredit banks are community banks owned by the members- that means all the surplus gets reinvested in community sustainability. As Grameen formed around 1980 its members held meetings that identified what their wish was to sustain end of pverty at community levels and ensure their children were removed from poverty. These 16 decisions remind us how hard the original challenge was. They still define the culture of Grameen today. For example, the head of Grameen America was originally interested in benchmarks for sustaining vilage helath systems. He noted a while ago that where vilages sustauned surprisingly good health they also had microcredit banks. Dr Yunus and the four founding members have given the world a great gift in ooen sourcing microcredit and potentially micro social business of every need releavnt to the millennial goals. I ask that the least that peacebuilders do is know how to differentiate between true microcredit and imitators who wish to profit from the poor.
