This is a 2 and a half minutes video clip of a unique event, perhaps the very first of it's kind in Kerala, India or in the World that took place in Wayanadu on the 28th June 2008, saturday. Nearly 1,200 people (including students between the ages 8 and 15 from 35 different schools from the districts of Kozhikode and Wayanadu with their teachers) assembled at Lakkidi near the Wayanadu gate at 10.00 am. After a small meeting organised by the Coordination Committee of Enviornmental Organisations of Kozhikode and Wayanadu Districts, they all proceeded by foot removing plasic wastes from the road side and planting flowering trees, shrubs, creepers and other plants along the ghut road (12 kms in length and comprising of 9 hairpin bends), safe-guarding the fragile eco-system of this rain forest area in the great Nilgris bio-reserve. Without any doubt it was a invaluable, enjoyable and memorable experience for the participating children and volunteers.

This is the begining of the walk itself. We were hit by a dense patch of fog which brought down the visibility down to almost nil. It was a courageous decision to continue with our walk knowing how busy that stretch of high way normally is. The children really enjoyed their day out and the weather was awesome as you can see from this clip. Hope you all enjoy it.
Cheers,
Kris Kandath
