The Global Peace Theory of Afzal Shauq
• Based on A Friendly Smile:
Afzal Shauq asks the question "then why the need of fight with guns to subdue each other?" Perhaps he wants the reader to stop and ask himself this same question and provide an answer of his own. The question should be answered only after reading the first portion of the poem, taking into consideration that a mere smile can stop hearts, lift spirits, and can turn a situation from confrontational to docile.
When asking "why the need of fight with guns?" we should have in mind the possible motives of those holding the guns, is their goal logically that of peace, or is their goal an outright greed for money and power?
• Whether He Wants to Be a Friend of Hundreds Or Searching His Missing Second Half?
As he's looking for someone to call a dear companion, a close friend of his own he found friends in a multitude of people, who are likely seekers of peace too.
We all need a dear and trustworthy friend to call our own and in our search we often befriend people of a variety of backgrounds, and in this process we often find a person that suits us the best, hence the term 'best friend' because they are the most like us in personality or because they have come to know us better, or quite frequently, both. This quite often becomes not only the best foundation for friendships but also for marriages. A marriage union can endure the most hardships when the two are closely knit together, as best friends.
But here, who is that one that is missing? Is it God? A marriage mate or a close friend of his own? Or perhaps he is calling for human unity among all the nations, "you" could be each individual reader of this poem and he's inviting us in his search for world peace. Through this 'you' and I are invited to be his friends, and if he succeeds in our all becoming friends then there are no more enemies to be had, no wars to be fought, only peace and security to be won.
