When it comes to peace, how would you describe yourself?: I feel the pain in the world

What do you believe are the 'burning issues' today?: War, Hunger, Poverty, Education, Our Planet, Violence, Human Rights

So what is it?: poverty

What must we overcome to achieve peace?: Fear

More: Fear is the root to all evil. Anger is nothing more then fear turned inside out. Fear builds resentments, hatred, and paranoia...

The ultimate goal of fear is conflict and insecurity.

Can we change the world?: Definitely

More about me: I'm a recovering alcoholic who was raised in a violent raged filled environment. I learned at an early age what fear was and have been battling it most of my life.

Today, I believe, that with my Higher Power I have nothing to fear. An example for me would be alcohol. I know what alcohol does to me but I'm not in fear of it. I respect it, but I don't fear it.

If we can eliminate fear and find respect, it will become a beautiful world.

Scars that don't heal

I learned with every 12 Step group that I've participated in that I am powerless... that I need to surrender all control.

I don't entirely agree with that. And every time I say that at a meeting. The eyebrows raise and I go on to explain myself. By the time I finish explaining many agree with me.

Finding Forgiveness

In a little under a month, God Willing, I will be celebrating my 15th year of sobriety. When I quit drinking, my life changed dramatically. The anger and the rage left, but I still couldn't find the peace I was searching for. Starting my fourth month of sobriety a counselor suggested that since the 12 Steps of AA worked so well for me, that maybe I should use them to deal with my co-dependency issues.
