Here and Now

I remember in college a joke I enjoyed was to play with the words 'here' and 'there'. If someone asked me if I was 'there', I'd say 'no, I'm here, I've never been there. Have you?'

I've been doing a new practice in the mornings. Among other things it includes saying to myself, 'I am here, now,' repeatedly, while keeping my concentration at the top of the bridge of my nose (eyes closed). One of the things that the instructions I received asked me to take note of was that when my mind wandered, that then I could see that there were two 'places' to 'be'. One was 'here, now'. The other was in my thoughts, of past or future. Not to be upset by being distracted by the thoughts, but to simply use them as an opportunity to see the difference between here and now, and there and then, so to speak.

Seems that back in college I was probably there and then a whole lot more than here and now, after all! :)

Speaking again of flow, from yesterday, one of the key ingredients in flow is being present in the moment. Being here, now. When being here and now, there is not a sense of separation possible. I am at one with myself and with the elements that might be present in addition to myself. I don't feel any need to question, because questions arise out of conflict, separation. I don't have an experience of 'self', separate from the experience of the moment, even the experience of doingness of the moment.
