In a moment of bereavement,
Her soul full of abject despair,
Indian princess cried to heaven,
"Oh, Great Spirit, I find no peace any where."

The storm raged around her,
As to jagged rocks she clung,
Heart pounding louder than thunder,
She thought to climb the cliff, take the plunge.

From out of the darkness, great flap of wing,
A screech even louder than the one in her heart,
Messenger of the Spirit, white owl come to bring
Solace to the princess, promises that one day,
Her soul again would sing.
