Afraid to leave;
More afraid to stay,
I gathered my faith,
And fled one day.

A leap into the dark unknown,
Bruised body, bleeding soul,
But not longer afraid of being alone,
Knowing that with me God would go.

Hiding till outer wounds grew dim,
I made my bed in the hillocks of spring,
Knowing I balanced on precarious brim,
My lifeline of hope a frazzled string.

Hunger and hope drew me from my shell;
Vulnerable I stood, naked 'fore God,
Pleading to be released from my hell,
Too tired any further to trod.

I reached toward the sky,
As storm clouds divided,
A beautiful wonder met my eye,
Angel and clouds viciously collided.

From wings spread wide healing water did pour,
Bathing each welt and filling each cut,
Of the earth beneath me with succor,
Healing elixir not just for the land, but
Also for my thirsty soul's core,
Hour after glorious hour
The healing waters did pour.
