Spiritual Singer

Few hear the Songs
sung ceremoniously
for the People's strength
to keep the Indian Way alive.

Still fewer see the Faith
songs of Life
for the People's struggle
to keep themselves alive.

Spiritual Singer, song maker
tilt the head upward
releasing songs of life
to the Great Mystery.

To greet the new day
the Morning Song
to honour the Grandfathers
the Stone Song.

To greet the Ancestors
at the Sundance
Sundance Songs
praising the Creation.

The Ancestor's Spirits cry
through another's singing
to save the Earth Mother
guide the Sacred Eagle.

Spiritual Singer, drum singer
tilt the head upward
releasing Song Prayers
to the Great Mystery.
