"There are certain queer times and occasions in this strange mixed
affair we call life when a man takes this whole universe for a vast
practical joke, though the wit thereof he but dimly discerns, and more
than suspects that the joke is at nobody's expense but his own."
- Herman Melville: Moby Dick
A priest dies and is waiting in line at the Heavens. Ahead of him is a guy who's dressed in khakhi dress and is a ferocious looking Jat.
Yamraj addresses this guy, "Who are you, so that I may know whether or not to admit you to the Kingdom of Heaven?"
The guy replies, "I'm Om Prakash, a bus driver with DTC"
Yamraj consults his list. He smiles and says to the bus driver, "Take this silken robe and golden staff and enter the Kingdom of Heaven."
The driver goes into Heaven with his robe and staff, and it's the priest's turn. He stands erect and booms out, "I am Lakshmi Narain Shastri, Head-Priest of Birla Mandir for the last forty-three years."
Yamraj consults his list. He says to the priest, "Take this cotton robe and wooden staff and enter the Kingdom of Heaven."
"Just a minute," says the priest. "That man was a bus driver and he gets a silken robe and golden staff. How can this be?"
"Up here, we work by results," says Yamraj. "While you preached, people slept; while he drove, people prayed."
