If anyone sees a member spamming (sending out multiple messages advertising another site or advert) can they let any of the Network admin know immediately. iPeace have very clear guidelines laid down for spamming. Network admin will remove or give out necessary warnings.

I don't know much about computers but I've been told that you can trace all members to their computer, therefore being able to find member with more than one account/profile on ipeace.

I know that there is at least one person with more than one profile/account on ipeace. Would it not be a good idea to trace these people and ask them to remove their other accounts. My computers has two accounts on ipeace, from the same ip address, as my daughter and I share the same computer, so there are some genuine reasons for this happening.

If people are banned would it be possible to ban them from the source, ie ban the ip address?
Nice idea Sue but it's not quite that simple. Yes you can block the IP address but that doesn't mean you block the person and you may block an innocent party instead. This is because the majority of service providers use dynamic IP address allocation rather than fixed IP addresses. When you log on you get the next available address; it may have just been relinquished by a spammer! Similarly, your multi-account guys may easily have registered from a different IP address each time.
That teaches me for trying to be technical.... I'd better just stick with the simple stuff!
The idea was fine Sue, no problem there. It's just that the techie stuff is always more complicated than you bargain for!
Yes... a little knowledge is a very dangerous thing sometimes... and I asked Ross, that's always dangerous!
The last week or two I've had a spate of spammers on my web forum and had to delete their accounts.

I used to trace their ISPs and report them for spamming but with very few exceptions I never got any response. The vast majority are registered in the Russian Federation. Their ISPs seem to be a home for spammers. Quite a while ago I had several porn spammers and those I did pursue and report as well as blacking them on a fairly active Administrators' forum.

In the end though, there are just too many ways around the best measures you try to put in place, which is a bit depressing I guess.
Yes, it is sad that there is nothing that you can really do... just be vigilant and delete their accounts.
How did you determine the IP address, Les?

I don't see a way of doing via Ning.

And yes. Even if we can it can be a futile exercise.
