BURMA ACTION IRELAND – CAMPAIGN/EVENT NOTICE
FREE BURMA’S POLITICAL PRISONERS NOW!
Burma Action Ireland will launch a new campaign; “Free Burma’s Political Prisoners Now!” on 13th March 2009. This is part of a global campaign to push for the release of all 2,128 political prisoners in Burma. The aim of the campaign is to collect 888,888 signatures globally and to deliver these signatures to UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon on May 24th 2009; a significant date as the current term of Aung San Suu Kyi’s’ house arrest ends on that date. Ban Ki Moon has stated that he will not return to Burma until all political prisoners, including Aung San Suu Kyi is released.
Burma Action Ireland are urging the public to sign the petition online on the BAI website or in person at street events staged by BAI in the coming weeks. Members and supporters of Burma Action Ireland will be in Grafton Street, Dublin on Saturday 14th March from 12 noon to gather signatures and raise awareness of the campaign.
BAI will also be on the streets over the coming weeks gathering signatures; there will be public events, visits to schools and communities etc. BAI urges the public to get involved by signing the petition, encouraging others to sign or even by gathering signatures in your college, workplace or community. Aung San Suu Kyi has asked people to ‘use your freedom to promote ours’ and this is a simple way to do just that.
The petition is now available on the BAI website, please visit www.burmaactionireland.org and use your freedom to promote theirs!
