Losar is the Tibetan New Year and the most important holiday in Tibet. Losar is usually celebrated festively, with food and drinks, singing, dancing…
This year, however, the Tibetan Community in Belgium have informed us (the "Vrienden van Tibet", the Tibet Support Group Belgium) that Losar will be celebrated in a serene way with prayer services in Schoten to commemorate 60 years of Chinese occupation and the 50th anniversary of the Tibetan Uprising Day (or March 10, the day of the Tibetan uprising in Lhasa where 80.000 people died).
Out of respect for all the victims who fell in these six decennia (already 1,2 millions!!) and out of sympathy with their terrorised people left behind, there will be no festivities, in not a single Tibetan community.
The Tibetan New Year is on the 25th February 2009.
The “Vrienden van Tibet” (Tibet Support Group Belgium) call on you to light a Losar candle on the 25th February as a symbol of solidarity with all Tibetans. It’s a small effort but also a symbol that the Tibetan people have not been forgotten.
Thanks in advance for participating.
Vrienden van Tibet.
