Clean slate for Raymond

Tamika Raymond is one newlywed who doesn't want to hear the word "anniversary" right now. But then again, who could blame her?

When last seen on a basketball court, the Lynx's 2002 first-round draft choice was known as Tamika Williams, and she was playing out the string in a disastrous season for both her and the team. Both parties could trace a big chunk of their troubles to the knee surgery Raymond underwent one year ago today.

A torn medial meniscus in her left knee, suffered on the first day of practice, set the tone for a Lynx season to forget. Raymond, who recovered in time to start 30 of 31 games, is leading the charge in that category. Raymond recently married former Minnesota Duluth basketball player Ben Raymond, whom she met in the Twin Cities. She said she relied heavily on him last season as she posted the worst numbers of her pro career and the Lynx floundered.

The Lynx, who focused on rebuilding their backcourt in the draft, are particularly counting on Raymond to be a force on the glass this season. All indications are Raymond is ready.

"This year, everything's fresh, everything's new," she said. "Our style of play is different, the players around me are different. The level of confidence is different.

"It's just like being in college again, where everything is going hard. Everything is pushing the limit.
