People Who Love & Understand Lord Christ Don’t Eat Other Creatures!
The unnecessary reckless mass killing of innocent animals causes such a burden on society that it was a topic His Divine Grace Bhaktivedanta Swami would raise every time he met with a representative of the Christian faith. He seemed to be more patient with the flesh eating habits of the general public in the Western world, but based on the conversation which follows, it is evident that he expected the priests to know better especially considering the injunction found in the sixth commandment: “Thou shall NOT kill.”
Vegetarianism is common among both Jewish and Gnostic forms of Christianity. One of the first Christian communities, the Ebionites, is thought to have been vegetarian. Jewish Christians and Gnostic sects, such as the Cathars, have adhered to vegetarianism throughout history. When we turn to the Bible we find that there are actually many verses that can be cited to further support the argument that a good Christian would also keep a vegetarian diet.
And God said, Behold, I have given you every Herb bearing seed, which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed.; to you is shall be for meat. - Genesis 1.30 BIBLE
But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. And surely your blood of your lives will I require: at the hand of every beast will I require it. – Genesis 9.4-5
To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? Said the Lord. I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks or of lambs, or of he-goats. When ye spread forth your hands I will hide Mine eyes from ye; yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear, for your hands are full of blood - Isaiah 1.11-15 BIBLE
He that killeth an ox is as if he slew a man - Isaiah 66.3 BIBLE
It shall be a perpetual stattue for your generation throughout all your dwellings that ye eat neither fat nor blood. – Leviticus 3:17 BIBLE
"Moreover ye shall eat no manner of blood, whether it be of fowl or of beast, in any of your dwellings." - Leviticus 7: 26
And whatsoever man there be of the house of Isreal, or of strangers who sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood, I will even set My face against that soul that eateth blood. – Leviticus 17.10 BIBLE
For that such befalleth the sons of man befalleth the beasts. Even one thing befalleth them; as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath, so that a man hath no pre-eminence above a beast. For all is vanity. -Ecclesiastes 3:19 BIBLE
Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are pure, but it is evil for the man who eats with offense. It is good neither to eat flesh nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak. – Romans 14: 20-21BIBLE
