What is soul ?

Although scientists have well studied the brain, mapped it and located in it the seats of 36 facets of the human intelligence, they have never found the seat of consciousness. Consciousness or the Self is what we also call the soul. It is said that when we die, we loose an unexplained 14 grams. So the substance of life or the soul can be detected but yet not captured.

All people through all the ages have known about the existence of the immortal soul. It is one universal knowledge transcending religions and beliefs systems, an innate inner wisdom given at birth, something we all can feel if we take the time to know ourselves deeply. Only short-sighted materialistic persons could deny the existence of their own soul.

Consciousness, according to western science, has its roots in the mind, which in turn is seated in the brain. It is interesting to note that most of our purposeful behavior happens without the aid of consciousness. We even solve most of our routine problems unconsciously. It is when a purpose or result can be achieved by alternative means that consciousness is called upon. In other words, at the routine level of existence, we do not employ consciousness except when we are altering our actions or thoughts from the routine, for a purpose.

Soul is referred to as the spiritual part of a person, regarded as the center of personality, intellect, will, and emotions. It is our inner self with deep and sincere feelings. It is a strong emotion which guides us all the way through.

For what this is worth, I will share. My mother died 15 months ago. I was with her as was 2 nurses, 1 hospice. Within a moment of her last breath a rose colored misty looking cloud formed at the center of her forehead, then instantly dissipated. We were blinking wide-eyed as we watch, then looked at each other speechless. The hospice nurse said he'd never seen anything like that before.

I tried to create what we'd seen in PhotoShop - though this does not do it justice. It was stunning. I am curious if this moment had been captured on a video camera if anything would have shown. But I do know we all saw it and described the same thing.

Wow! Very interesting story. Thank you Maka for sharing it.

There are many manifestations of the soul whether seen, heard or felt. There are many photos or videos of such manifestations. Many people had experiences in which they would see or even connect with souls of departed people, often beloved ones. Some of these can become guides, since we are all connected forever. Some other times, certain souls can become attached to past identities or physical places, becoming what we call ghosts and sometimes haunting places. These wandering souls just need to be reminded of their divine Self, just like us incarnated people living in flesh. We are all One.

My mother departed for the long journey one hour before the great tsunami, the day after christmas 2004. So may I say, she kind of opened the trail for many and was followed by one quarter of a million souls in a few hours. The family was gathered for her last moments and I was the last one to touch her after she gave her last breath, kissing her on the forehead. I also did a ceremony to wish her a happy journey into the Light. She then came to me several times for a month and a half, in my dreams as well as when I was awake. I sensed her presence at times, heard her walk around and even speak to me. Some people will say it all happens in your brain, but some others know better. The Tibetan do fifty days of prayers for the soul of someone who dies.

There would be much more to say on the topic of the soul and I sure hope we will take time to share more.

Thank you SunBow. What a wonderful story of your mother's passing. Thank you for sharing such details. I too kissed my mother on the forehead, and also experienced many of the things you describe.

I'd lost my medicine bag the day I'd spent with my mother when she crossed over. I thought I'd left it at the medical facility. I searched, prayed for its return and searched some more. in a dream a few months later I heard my mom say 'one year' though I did not connect the two at that time as I was not thinking of my medicine bag. In fact had released it.

Exactly one year from the day she died, I found my medicine bag hanging in plain sight. That was a few months ago and I am still amazed. At the moment i found it, I was busy cleaning and for some reason looked up and it was just hanging there. I could not have missed it before as it would have been in the way of things. I still do not know where it was for a year.

Well, even I had experienced many times that the souls which are departed keep coming in my dream and indicate me about something or the other which is going to happen. Recently, a year back my father passed away due to certain health problem and he kept on coming back to me in my dreams for around 2 months. At that time, I could see him, talk to him, and feel his presence in my house and people used to say that it all happens in your brain and others might call them as ghost, just as SunBow said. Also, people said that it is all your illusion. I personally believe that the souls come back in dreams because of the attachment or love with that person, thing or place. I also believe that if you want to meet someone who passed away, you just have to remember him from your true soul and you will fell his presence in your dream or life.

Basically, soul is our inner self with deep and sincere feelings so with these sincere feelings we can feel the departed souls and meet them in our dreams.

I wish peace to all the departed souls.
