Why is transgender and intersex not included as an option for gender on this site?

It's very interesting that such a forward site that advocates equality and peace does not include such options. It's also interesting that male and female is the only options for gender, especially when male and female are categories of physical sex and not gender (i.e. man and woman which is different from male and female. It would be silly to call a male baby a man, etc.).

As a transgender person, even though my social role is that of a woman and on the feminine side of the spectrum, it feels uncomfortable to select male or female as my "gender" when I am "transgender" meaning I cross and sometimes transcend the gender binary.

All of my life, being transgender has left me in a gray area in a society that has a gender binary, that only includes two options for gender.

I personally think it's unfair that transgender and intersex people are not acknowledged and are often forced to select from only two options on paper work, and only two options with which to express themselves socially in society when it comes to gender.

It would be nice for transgender and intersex people to have the option to identify and be ACKNOWLEDGED as what and who we actually are, like other societies from the past and present have done, and be given places in this black and white seperatist society. It may seem like a small trivial matter to be able to select an option on a website, but when you live your whole life not being acknowledged and only given options that do not encompass who and what you are, every little bit of the exclusion causes less peace within and less peace without.

Please include those who are not male, female, man or woman, or those who have permanently switched sexes, and otherwise transcend the gender binary here on the website as well as within your daily lives with awareness and compassion.

Gianna Love

Gordon J Millar is the person who you need to speak to on this matter.

I chose not to answer the question on gender, as I personally feel that it should not be of any importance on a site that is about promoting peace and understanding.

iPeace and all the other ning sites are limited by how ning was set up, I doubt if the options you would like to see are available.
What I am pointing out is that for people who have had issues with their gender and fitting into gender norms, such as myself, it is sometimes disheartening when one has to fill out paperwork or options on a website like this one that force one into a binary. It's not that Gender necessarily is of any importance in the long run, but if you have really deconstructed it and looked at it for what it is, you will find that it's the foundation of almost all social interactions in every culture, sub-culture, and society. And if a site is promoting more understanding of others and of diversity, then it would be of even greater promotional value to the ideals of peace and understanding to allow others to express their diversity.

And furthermore, if the gender/sex options in question are due to a template factor for websites such as these, the activist in me says to go and speak to those who make the templates :-)
