In facebook, where we are raising money, the beneficiary is currently MERCY CORPS a 501(c)(3) nonprofit

In 25 years of experience on the ground, Mercy Corps has learned that communities recovering from war or social upheaval must be the agents of their own transformation for change to endure. It's only when communities set their own agendas, raise their own resources, and implement programs themselves, that their first successes result in the renewed hope, confidence and skills to continue development independently.

Description: Since 1979, Mercy Corps has provided $1 billion in assistance to people in 82 nations. Supported by headquarters offices in North America, Europe, and Asia, the agency's unified global programs employ 2,700 staff worldwide and reach nearly 10 million people in more than 40 countries.

Mercy Corps pursues its mission through emergency relief services that assist people afflicted by conflict or disaster; through sustainable community development that integrates agriculture, health, housing and infrastructure, economic development, education and environment, and local management; and through civil society initiatives that promote citizen participation, accountability, conflict management, and the rule of law.

A letter from Mercy Corp:

Thank you so much for thinking of Mercy Corps for your donations.

First of all, if your cause does choose to give the donations to Mercy Corps, I can assure you that all of that money will go to our programs in Gaza. We keep track of the individual causes that donate to Mercy Corps via Facebook to ensure that all funds go to the appropriate programs.

That being said, the majority of Mercy Corps' Gaza recovery programs target children. Our staff on the ground has found that the psychological toll on civilians, particularly children, has been enormous. Mercy Corps is in the process of transforming our psychosocial programs to address the specific needs of Gazan youth.

Currently, we are also working to help families with damaged homes to gain access to clean water and better shelter. We continue our work to distribute emergency relief items to 100,000 Gazans in need, but have shifted our focus to helping civilians rebuild their lives in the long term. In total, Mercy Corps has raised more than $2 million and secured $500K worth of material goods to support our efforts.

All of our Gazan recovery programs help children directly through the rebuilding of schools, food, shelter, and psychosocial programs -- or indirectly by helping parents rebuild homes and livelihoods.

Many thanks for thinking of us for your donations. Please let me know if I can answer any additional questions for you. Also, you can check out the latest Mercy Corps Gaza updates here: http://www.mercycorps.org/gazacrisis/

ROME (JTA) – Italy's Jewish community will send medical supplies to aid children in both Israel and Gaza.

Rome Jewish Community President Riccardo Pacifici said community representatives will meet with Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini on Jan. 5 to formally present the offer of more than $400,000 in aid.

In an announcement, the Rome Jewish Community and the Union of Italian Jewish Communities umbrella group said that two-thirds of the donation will go to children and other civilians in Gaza "caught up in the targeted attacks on the Hamas terrorist infrastructure."

The remaining will go to children and civilians in southern Israel hit by Hamas rockets.

"Ours is a gesture of humanity aimed at alleviating the suffering of children in Israel and Gaza, accompanied by the hope that in Gaza the predominance of groups who make indiscriminate use of violent and terrorist methods will cease," said UCEI President Renzo Gattegna.

The donation was made in direct response to an appeal launched Tuesday by Frattini, which called for Italians to raise about $1.4 million to aid civilians hit by both Hamas rockets and Israeli airstrikes.

I was born jewish in this incarnation.I practice a spiritual path out of india with an elderly guru that speaks no english. I have palestinian friends christian & muslim. sufferingm sorrow, fear & the cry for peace is on everyones lips even if the word becomes twisted. Unless one is a psycopathic terrorist. I AM ALSO A 9/11 SURVIVOR. I STILL LIVE HERE AT GROUND ZERO I WAS THERE I SAW & EXPERIENCED IT ALL.now, i will be sending with my best friend that has a daughter a baby , a package for gaza children we will also be sending to israel for israeli children as well. wherever & whenever we can help assuage the suffering of anyone & are moved to do so we should do so. I dont think anyone here is naive enough to think we can end the conflict in Israel.Thisis the physical plane, the kali yuga. it is the nature of the physical plane to have both light& dark. look for the peace withing yourself shower compassion to yourself & everyone without discrimination & work with diligence to help end the endless suffering of humanity incarnation after incarnation.this will not happen with conflict argument or hate never ever ever. The Light that shines eternal is that of love if you reveal that love within yourself your hand will extend mush further in this sorry world to be of service to humanity

@Billy 10,000 is just my own fund raising target. The cause's target is 1 million - you can see it here : http://apps.facebook.com/causes/190745?recruiter_id=18566711

Something's wrong on the Facebook "Donate" page. Every other page for this Cause shows the $1,000,000 goal - but the actual Donate page shows a goal of only $10,000 by April 12. The "Amount needed" is proportionately small as well.

I hops this is just a typo and can be fixed quickly. A glaring contradiction like this in something as simple but important as the monetary goal of the project does not inspire confidence that money raised will be used efficiently.
