In facebook, where we are raising money, the beneficiary is currently MERCY CORPS a 501(c)(3) nonprofit

In 25 years of experience on the ground, Mercy Corps has learned that communities recovering from war or social upheaval must be the agents of their own transformation for change to endure. It's only when communities set their own agendas, raise their own resources, and implement programs themselves, that their first successes result in the renewed hope, confidence and skills to continue development independently.

Description: Since 1979, Mercy Corps has provided $1 billion in assistance to people in 82 nations. Supported by headquarters offices in North America, Europe, and Asia, the agency's unified global programs employ 2,700 staff worldwide and reach nearly 10 million people in more than 40 countries.

Mercy Corps pursues its mission through emergency relief services that assist people afflicted by conflict or disaster; through sustainable community development that integrates agriculture, health, housing and infrastructure, economic development, education and environment, and local management; and through civil society initiatives that promote citizen participation, accountability, conflict management, and the rule of law.

A letter from Mercy Corp:

Thank you so much for thinking of Mercy Corps for your donations.

First of all, if your cause does choose to give the donations to Mercy Corps, I can assure you that all of that money will go to our programs in Gaza. We keep track of the individual causes that donate to Mercy Corps via Facebook to ensure that all funds go to the appropriate programs.

That being said, the majority of Mercy Corps' Gaza recovery programs target children. Our staff on the ground has found that the psychological toll on civilians, particularly children, has been enormous. Mercy Corps is in the process of transforming our psychosocial programs to address the specific needs of Gazan youth.

Currently, we are also working to help families with damaged homes to gain access to clean water and better shelter. We continue our work to distribute emergency relief items to 100,000 Gazans in need, but have shifted our focus to helping civilians rebuild their lives in the long term. In total, Mercy Corps has raised more than $2 million and secured $500K worth of material goods to support our efforts.

All of our Gazan recovery programs help children directly through the rebuilding of schools, food, shelter, and psychosocial programs -- or indirectly by helping parents rebuild homes and livelihoods.

Many thanks for thinking of us for your donations. Please let me know if I can answer any additional questions for you. Also, you can check out the latest Mercy Corps Gaza updates here: http://www.mercycorps.org/gazacrisis/

Dear David & Co., thank you for making it so easy to help, it's so well organized, that even I and my computer (both with not much capacity in technics) could easily manage a donation. But I could only do it, because my father gave me his credit card number last week (for ordering 'sacred sacred'). What about other people without a credit card and without such a father? So:
* Is it possible to organize other ways of donation?
For example via PAYPAL ('Avaaz' for example offers this way) or via publishing an ACCOUNT NUMBER, so that an international money transfer from the own bank to the foreign bank could happen.

Getting more people and donators involved:
* Could our artists and writers develop a FLYER (like we had it for iPeace Day)? With information about 'Aid for children in Gaza' and 'iPeace'? I, for example, do not have any friends in facebook and not many email-contacts. But I could post flyers in the school of my daughter and at other places, where people come who love children... and also in our Fair-Trade-Shop, where we also offer olive-oil from Palestine (another way of supporting a constructive development in this region).
Best size for a colour-flyer could be 1/4 of a normal page (for keeping the printing cheap).

Thanks for your management!

Pardon the double post (I replied to Danielas discussion as well)
The United Palestinian Appeal is rater four star (out of four) by CHARITY NAVIGATOR, the group that Daniela apparently works for.

Ayla - Not us. not iPeace.

at the moment we chose UNITED PALESTINIAN APPEAL INC to receive donations through our cause in facebook that's their website: http://www.helpupa.com/
We are waiting for a letter of guarantee that 100% of the funds will aid the children in Gaza. When we receive it we'll publish it here.

iPeace is not seeing the money nor it wants to.
We will not allow fund raising on this site for obvious reasons.

17 people donated $1565. We would like to see more people participate. We would like to see your passion with the keyboard matched with reaching out for your wallets.

Denise, Your idea of packages with things for kids is great. I know of a group of orphans from 1948 who received a "care" package of toys, etc from the USA. I met these "children" as adults decades later..and the still told of the joy they had opening the packages and playing with the gifts from the friends abroad.

People sending packages should include their children's drawings, personal messages etc as well.

I whish this group also would include women. Because both women and children are the most vulnerable parts in this conflict. Here the need of education and support of women rights as well as childrens are very important. Our world cannot go on closing our eyes to the voice of women and that it is a part of this world and that it is but half without. It would make us closer to the truth of human needs. And as it is now women are not only neglected, they are oppressed all over the world. Still!
