We have all seen the scene in the films where loved ones bid farewell or are reunited in the smoke of a steam train at a platform in the station. The time and distance between the people either crushed by a kiss. Or an awaited departure , where they wish the kiss could last forever. It is a moment most of would consider beautiful.
Not Virgin atlantic. Who have banned kissing at the platforms in parts in Britain. Saying that it is slowing departure times at the stations. On top of have big "no kissing signs" up at the platforms, a spokesman for the company said "if they want to pay for parking they can kiss in their cars all they like."
Here on Ipeace, I put "our shrinking freedoms" as one of our obstacles for peace. This "kissing ban" may seem like a small thing. But if this strategy seems to work for Virgin, how many other companies will take note of it, and apply it to their companies ? This is stuff you would find in Orwell's 1984. It seems a bit like the Catholic nuns in Ireland at discos almost a half a century ago, with a ruler making sure the girls are dancing at an appropriate distance from the boys.
So should we all walk single file to where we are going and then excecute our intent with minimal time so we can keep the cogs of industry turning ? Try hide even our most basic of human feelings? which in this case is one of the truest expressions of love you can show. Give your loved ones a hardy handshake before you depart ? I don't think so, what can they do ? call the police ? that would be considered a waste of police time.
