Today's STAND UP AGAINST BULLYING campaigns have their origins in last year's "Wear Pink" campaign undertaken initially by two Nova Scotia students. "KIND CASSES" Facebook group has posted extensively on this campaign during the year. There is even a tribute group on Facebook for the two students in question - "For Those Who Wore Pink For The Bullied Boy".
The campaign at first spread through Nova Scotia schools.
Premier Rodney Macdonald proclaimed the second Thursday of every school year to be Stand Up To Bullying Day. The Wear Pink campaign though went way beyond the boundaries of Nova Scotia and gained worldwide recognition.
The Facebook group - "For Those Who Wore Pink For The Bullied Boy" - attracted celebrity statusin the person of Yoko Ono to post at its group.
Anti - bullying campaigns inspired by the "Wear Pink" campaign are taking place worldwide on this day. It isn't even just Wear Pink campaigns that are taking place today. There are students creating anti - bullying cheers,
attending anti - bullying school assemblies, focusing on cyber bullying, etc.
And the Red Cross is meeting in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada to plan the expansion of its RespectED program."KIND CLASSES" has focused previously on the RespectEd program. We even use this quote from a program coordinator in our "KIND CLASSES" Facebook group introduction.
The quote notes that school bullying is really society's problem.
"Bullying is not a school issue -- it's an issue that comes to school, but it is not a school issue" ~ Norm Jakubowskithe Canadian Red Cross RespectED Co-ordinator
