Big question mark on Nobel prize for peace : Why Gandhi was ignored ?

Mohandas Gandhi (1869-1948) has become the strongest symbol of non-violence in the 20th century. It is widely held – in retrospect – that the Indian national leader should have been the very man to be selected for the Nobel Peace Prize. He was nominated several times, but was never awarded the prize. Why?
These questions have been asked frequently: Was the horizon of the Norwegian Nobel Committee too narrow? Were the committee members unable to appreciate the struggle for freedom among non-European peoples?" Or were the Norwegian committee members perhaps afraid to make a prize award which might be detrimental to the relationship between their own country and Great Britain?

Gandhi was nominated in 1937, 1938, 1939, 1947 and, finally, a few days before he was murdered in January 1948. The omission has been publicly regretted by later members of the Nobel Committee; when the Dalai Lama was awarded the Peace Prize in 1989, the chairman of the committee said that this was "in part a tribute to the memory of Mahatma Gandhi". However, the committee has never commented on the speculations as to why Gandhi was not awarded the prize, and until recently the sources which might shed some light on the matter were unavailable.

Gandhian Ideologist and Philosopher Naresh Kadyan, animal rights activist comes forward to raised this issue with the consultation of former Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (Govt. of India) Shri Laxmidas, Chairman, National Khadi and Village Industries Board's Employees Federation (An apex body of all State KVIB's Employees Unions).

Can a candle like Nobel prize add to the light of Sun called Mahatma Gandhi. He is way ahead of the rest of human beings. Greatness gains the meaning when it is attributed to Mahatma.

Those who actually worked for peace may not be awarded like Gandhi...there are only few exceptions like Mandela or Mother Teresa...prize is meant for Carter who was responsible for war and the U.S Presidents since this was only country in the history to drop Atom bomb on civilians...

As at Wardha,

Dear friend,

Friends have been urging me to write to you for the sake of humanity. But I have resisted their request, because of the feeling that any letter from me would be an impertinence. Something tells me that I must not calculate and that I must make my appeal for whatever it may be worth.

It is quite clear that you are today the one person in the world who can prevent a war which may reduce humanity to a savage state. Must you pay that price for an object however worthy it may appear to you to be? Will you listen to the appeal of one who has deliberately shunned the method of war not without considerable success? Any way I anticipate your forgiveness, if I have erred in writing to you.

I remain,

Your sincere friend

M. K. Gandhi
