About Us
Peacebuilders grew from the action plan of youths and adults working together to resolve intense conflicts in various countries around the world including Cambodia, Colombia, Macedonia, Northern Ireland and South Africa in meetings at Port Royal, Jamaica on July 2002. The vision of the international delegates was to promote healthy, positive relationships based on common values such as sharing, compassion and accountability, despite ethnic, religious or other differences.
Our Vision
Diverse peoples and cultures committed to building peace.
Our Mission
To create cross-cultural partnerships amongst youth and adults through capacity building for peaceful and sustainable communities.
Our Values
These values are essential if we are to begin to address conflict without violence: Equality, Respect, Honesty, Empathy and Compassion, Courage, Humility and Inclusion. Appling these values to our lives builds trust, encourages sharing, lays the groundwork for forgiveness and fosters love.
Our Principles
These principles apply to the ways in which we deal with ourselves and with one another. They also apply to the processes we use in groups, families and communities to resolve differences, to make decisions and for governance processes:
-Act in accordance with peacebuilding values
-Ensure equal access and opportunity
-Use voluntary, purpose-driven processes
-Respect time limitations
-Share power to build horizontal capacity through partnerships
-Build capacity to develop self-reliances
-Make decisions by consensus
-Uphold and implement agreements
