writing Pictures, Images and Photos

Anyone can start a story, and we can all add our bit to it........ and see where it goes.

Gives us all a chance to do some creative writing!

Just add as much or as little as you want, from a few words to a paragraph or two :)

It had been a day of rain. Solid, unrelenting rain that poured out of a steel-grey sky from early morning until almost tea-time. In stark contrast the sky then cleared leaving a golden evening, the warm light making the rain-fresh colours glow as if lit from within.
I know that I was going to have to make a start on the project that would change my life forever, but could not face it until now. The glowing sun lifted my spirits so, and gave me the inner strength to take the first step into this new and exciting stage of my life.
As I watched the shadows lengthen and the sky take on a crimson glow I realised that the view from this window might soon be just a memory, the routines and habits I knew so well could be a thing of the past - maybe never to return. It was with a shaking hand that I picked up the telephone and dialled the number.
The ringing sound kicked in, I was almost hoping for the engaged signal.

A voice said "Stone and Smith, can I help you". I hesitated for a second and said in a slightly timid tone "can you please put me through to Mr Stone|".

"Certainly, may I ask who is calling" the voice replied.

"Amanda Phillips" I said.

Almost immediately I heard the mellow, soft and kind sound of Archie saying "Hello... Stone speaking"

I felt sick, excited, full of hope and trepidation all at the same time.

"Morning Archie.......it's Helen........... I will take you up on your offer"
There was just the hint of a hesitation before Archie replied.
"you're quite sure about this, Helen?"
"You realise what could be involved?"

Something in Archie's voice, far from sowing seeds of doubt, actually made up my mind for me. I had thought it through so many times; weighed up the risks until they seemed almost everyday - mundane.

"Yes Archie," I said, "Quite sure. I want to join the team."
Being a partner in a publishing company was something that I thought would never happen, especially after the engineered down fall of the company I worked for previously.
"Splendid! Splendid!" Archie's voice brought me back to the present moment with a jolt. "So, when can you start?"

"Start", I thought to myself, almost afraid I had said it out loud. Yes, it's really happening. I'm launching out on this venture, this dream that was about to become reality. I had to forget, to overcome the nightmare of the past, put that whole dreadful episode behind me and concentrate on the exciting new prospect that had so strangely fallen into my lap.

"Err... Monday?" I said, "Is that ok?"
"Monday is good for me" Archie said with such glee. He has made me feel a part of the team already, I could not wait to start.

Then it struck me... only three more days of freedom to do as I pleased. Still everything has it's price, I was getting all that I had ever wished for. But then why were the words "be careful what you wish for" going through my head. Have I really made the right move.........
That night, sleep wouldn't come easily and when I finally drifted off it was into a fitful and dream-crowded sleep. Faces from the past, weirdly distorted, came and went like some demented slide show. Snatches of music that were so familiar and yet unplaceable, echoed around the room and through it all one voice kept up a sort of chant, words that just wouldn't make sense.
Three faces.......... the one you show, the one you hide and the real one........ you.

Who, or what was this referring to.

During the "enforced" time I spent out of work I did a lot of thinking, perhaps too much. I began to see what had actually happened, rather than what I was deceived into believing.... the real truth behind the collapse of the company I have given my heart and soul to for far far too long.

I bought a book about dreams and their meaning many years ago, I had learned a little, but not enough to decode this one. Perhaps a google search will shed some light on what I am being told by those who wish to guide me.
The last thing I wanted was for history to repeat itself. I ran through again in my mind the events that had led to Archie's offer and my eventual acceptance. I could see nothing that might suggest that this was anything other than a genuine opportunity. I could not doubt Archie's sincerity and the terms were generous. Everything seemed to check out. So why this nagging doubt that wouldn't leave me in peace? Why the uneasy feeling that I was stepping out into the unknown again?
I'm not going to dwell....... life is too short.

I like and trust Archie, that's enough for me.

Monday morning came so soon.

I am glad that I had moved into town, it meant that I only had a short walk to the office.

There were several flights of stairs up to the suite of offices, and no lifts......... it will do me good climbing all those stairs, besides I will not have the time to visit the gym 5 times a week, and there will be not need to either.

I pushed the door open.

"Hello everyone" I chirped.

They must have been told that I was going to come through the door at some point around 8.45-9, but Betty the receptionist still looked a little taken back. Perhaps she thought I would not actually turn up.

"Hello Miss Phillips" replied Betty. Gradually the look of surprise faded to be replaced by a beaming smile.
