When it comes to peace, how would you describe yourself?: I feel the pain in the world

What do you believe are the 'burning issues' today?: Hunger, Poverty, Education, Our Planet, Human Rights

More: As an anthropologist I understand that part of human identity is the awareness of "us" as opposed to "them." All the things that make us "us" are precious and they give meaning to our lives. HOWEVER, our identification with family, nation, religion, etc. also fosters prejudice. I think children should be educated from an early age to understand that all human beings face a common set of problems and that their cultural diversity reflects only different ways of solving the problems we have in common. In other words, we are more alike than we are different . Our common problems should be the focus...not our different approaches to solving them.

More about me: I teach anthropology at Amarillo College in Amarillo, Texas. I like to think that teachers have the opportunity to help effect change in the world by how they help their students learn to think. I love music, history, film, art. I'm passionate about the US southwest and about Italy. I love spending time with my family. I consider myself a moderate Democrat...absolutely thrilled about the election results.
