More
General and former President of the US, Dwight Eisenhower warned that we should beware of the "military-industrial complex-" the corporations that feed on war preparation and conduct. In addition, there are other corporations in nations, such as the US, that are given military contracts (i.e. Haliburton) that have made gigantic profits from the war/s in which we engage. It is about time that the nations of this world employed the practice of diplomacy to resolve conflict and used an international system of arbitration to maintain peace, as well as those in a military capacity to maintain peace, protect the innocent and not fight war/s.
Can we change the world?
Definitely
More about me
I have worked for quite a few years on a national and international level to promote peace. In the early 1980's I brought approximately 1300 people from the US to the USSR and helped conduct seminars and discussion groups to promote international understanding. This came from the Nuclear Freeze movement, wherein I also worked with Physicians for Social Responsibility to mobilize citizens to put pressure on the US Government to establish peaceful relations with the USSR, and to cease stockpiling nuclear weapons. Despite all of these efforts, I came to the conclusion that the most important place to establish peace was within myself through meditation, study and practice of the Six Paramitas from Buddhist Philosophy. Having been at this for some time now, it is clear that much of the conflict to which I react is within me. So I now believe that if each one of us would adopt practices that foster peace within, the world would experience the vital changes that this planet needs to heal itself and continue existing.
