When it comes to peace, how would you describe yourself?
I feel the pain in the world
What do you believe are the 'burning issues' today?
War, Hunger, Poverty, Education, Our Planet, Violence, Human Rights, Our Shrinking Freedom
So what is it?
Lack of Community
What must we overcome to achieve peace?
Economic disparities
More
Crime is caused by some kind of hunger, usually lack of food. Lack of respect, no shelter, finding indifference when searching for help, lack of spirituality and dominance of ego, escape from fear and isolation through alcohol, drugs and other behaviors and the list goes on and on - these cause "crime". A new friend made a comment that wraps it all nicely. Relating to the global crisis, she said "The rich will become poor, the poor will become rich. The rich will lose their material stuff and the poor will rediscover community." On a massive scale, our "system" has been eroding the backbone of our people (middle class) while all the wealth flows to the top. Like Communism, Capitalism is tired. For international crime, or war, I have less to say for now. At the moment I feel more concerned about my own neighborhood but with some differences, I believe the above applies to that as well, adding the idea of extreme fundamentalism. To everything above, it's all about power really, isn't it? Who that has it will do everything to keep it and who does not will try to take it. Personally, I believe humanity is God-born and part of the God universe. As a species I agree with George Carlin that we're primitive: (paraphrase): If we were advanced, we'd have no hair and all be the same color.
Can we change the world?
Definitely
More about me
My heritage is growing up in an AFDC family, coming of age just in time for Woodstock, years at the University, joining the Navy to grow up (and leave town since my welcome seemed to be waning. Why the Navy? The French Foreign Legion wasn'ty taking applications). Then I tried my hand at family and career. I work hard. In this last third of my life, meaning is sneaking back in. I'll take some steps (like this one) and let it lead me to my meaning, so to speak. I pray for the strength of conviction and to believe in purpose because through all this (or through anything I go through, I guess), I do have my own demons to contend with.

Thank you, Brian, and you too, Fern, for welcoming me. I appreciate the profile questions - they were put together very well - very astute and intuitive. They helped me nearly immediately verbalize what I feel inside. Planetary pain - huge. It's not being negative, it really isn't. It's being in touch. I learned a long time ago that our our consciousness allows us to live "forever". Though our physical life-span is limited, our history and imagination knows no life-span boundary. Our access to history allows us to be "born" at the Big Bang with our lives embracing anything we've learned (I'm especially fond of the 14th-17th century European Renaissance) and our life can end as far in the future as our imagination and science can take us. Being in touch, breaking out of my "cushioned" yet globally isolated from being born in America, plus whatever quiet wisdom that comes with aging, allows me to honestly try and empathize with the rest of the world (if I choose - it's certainly not easy). I do want to understand. If I can be honest (and the worst kind of dishonesty is self delusion), then I can see the pain of the world, I can feel it. I can feel it in my neighborhood. I can also feel the anger of the world, both my anger at those in power and for those on the wrong end of the stick helping to cause that pain. Lastly (I can be wordy), I do have hope, that two-edged sword, that whatever happens, humanity will emerge with a brighter possibility. As I find in the discussions and essays surrounding the 2012 Winter Solstice (Mayan Calendar), our individual choices will help determine the outcome - either the destruction of everything, or, a new humanity, powered by God (or the Universe, or from the Star Wars power of the Force) - part and parcel with the same holistic energy that gives us tress and life and love. Again, thanks and I'm grateful my friend Cathy put her joining iPeace on her Facebook page. I look forward to hearing from you Fern and Brian and in learning more how all of us are traveling this path.
