Não é todo dia que se vê um eclipse total da Lua. Muito menos quando ele ocorre no momento em que o satélite natural da Terra surge no horizonte. Essa combinação rara de fenômenos será observada, nesta quarta-feira (15), na maior parte das regiões próximas ao litoral brasileiro.

O eclipse terá início às 16h22, no horário de Brasília, mas o “nascer da Lua” só ocorrerá em Fortaleza às 17h22. Isso significa dizer que quando o astro começar a ser observado nos céus da cidade (e no restante do Ceará) o fenômeno já terá atingido seu grau máximo, momento previsto para acontecer pouco antes, às 17h12. A duração total do eclipse será de 3h39min, terminando, portanto, às 20h01.

Além de parte do Brasil e de outros países da América do Sul, será possível avistar o eclipse, a olho nu, também em parte da África, Ásia Central, Leste da Ásia e Austrália. Em Fortaleza, os meteorologistas preveem céu com pouca nebulosidade na noite desta quinta-feira, o que deve facilitar a observação do fenômeno.

De acordo com Paulo Régis, membro do Clube de Astronomia de Fortaleza "um eclipse lunar ocorre quando a lua adentra a sombra que a Terra projeta no espaço. Tal evento só acontece quando há um alinhamento Lua-Terra-Sol, ou seja, quando nosso satélite natural está na fase de lua cheia".

Ele acrescenta ainda que "neste eclipse, devido às recentes explosões vulcânicas do vulcão chileno Puyehue-Caulle na Patagônia chilena, a Lua tende fortemente a um valor baixo na escala de Danjon*, pois o vulcão expeliu uma grande quantidade de cinzas na atmosfera terrestre".

*A Escala de Danjon (em homenagem ao astrônomo francês André Danjon) classifica os eclipses quanto ao grau de escurecimento do disco lunar e vai desde L = 0 ( lua quase imperceptível), até L = 5 (vermelho acobreado brilhante). Quanto mais limpa e transparente for a atmosfera da Terra, mais alaranjada ou avermelhada e brilhante é a Lua na totalidade.

Dicas para não perder o eclipse de vista

- Procure por um lugar que tenha um horizonte leste (nascente) livre de obstáculos, tais como árvores ou prédios no entorno, ou que seja bem alto, e de preferência longe de luzes artificias.

- A avenida Beira-Mar é dos melhores lugares de Fortaleza para ver o fenômeno

- No Litoral Leste, alguns dos melhores pontos de observação são o Porto das Dunas e a Prainha, em Aquiraz, bem como o litoral de Cascavel

- No Litoral Oeste, a praia da Lagoinha e adjacências, no município de Paraipaba

- No Interior procure um local com horizonte desimpedido

It's not everyday you see a total eclipse of the Moon much less when it occurs at a time when the Earth's natural satellite is on the horizon. This rare combination of phenomena will be observed on Wednesday (15), most of the regions near the Brazilian coast.

The eclipse will start at 16:22, GMT, but the "moonrise" will only occur in Fortaleza at 17h22. This means that when the star start to be seen in the skies over the city (and the rest of Ceará), the phenomenon will have reached its highest degree, currently scheduled to take place shortly before, at 17h12. The total eclipse will be 3h39min, thus finishing at 20h01.

But part of Brazil and other South American countries will be possible to see the eclipse with the naked eye in parts of Africa, Central Asia, East Asia and Australia. In Fortaleza, forecasters are predicting cloudy skies with little late on Thursday, which should facilitate the observation of the phenomenon.

According to Paul Regis, a member of the Astronomy Club of Fortaleza "a lunar eclipse occurs when the moon enters the Earth's shadow projected into space. Such an event happens only when there is an alignment Moon-Earth-Sun, ie, when our natural satellite is at the stage of full moon. "

He adds that "this eclipse, due to recent volcanic eruptions of the volcano in Chile Puyehue-Caulle in the Chilean Patagonia, the moon tends strongly to a low value in the range of Danjon *, as the volcano spewed a large amount of ash in the atmosphere" .

* The Danjon Scale (named after French astronomer André Danjon) classifies the eclipses in the degree of darkening of the lunar disk and goes from L = 0 (moon almost imperceptible) to L = 5 (bright copper red). The more clean and transparent for the Earth's atmosphere, more red and orange or bright is the Moon in its entirety.

Tips for not losing sight of the eclipse

- Search for a place that has an eastern horizon (rising) free of obstacles such as trees or buildings in the vicinity, or which is quite high, and preferably away from artificial lights.

- The Beira Mar is the best places to see the phenomenon Fortaleza

- On the East Coast, some of the best vantage points are the Prainha and Porto das Dunas, in Aquiraz and the shores of Rattlesnake

- On the West Coast, the beach and adjacent to the Pond in the town of Paraipaba
