Aussie models strip to undies for Bonds

AUSSIE hotties Miranda Kerr, Ruby Rose, Rachael Taylor and Kelly Gale strip to their undies for a sexy Bonds shoot for Sunday Style magazine to celebrate 100 years of the famous brand and talk everything from babies to bodies.

MIRANDA KERR

MODEL AND ENTREPRENEUR, 32

It was 2003, but Miranda Kerr’s first Bonds shoot could have been yesterday. “I [was] wearing pink and a little hat. I grew up with Bonds – it was so exciting,” recalls Kerr, now 32. She was 19 and a modelling pro, having been discovered at just 13. Flash forward via Victoria’s Secret Angel status (a job that transcends mere supermodel), a Hollywood marriage and split, and a successful organic skincare line, and that antioxidant-soaked face is staggeringly unchanged.

“My essence is the same,” she adds. “My parents were very young when they had me; we really didn’t have much at all. Having family is true happiness – not any of the other stuff I’ve been blessed with. Home is wherever I am with my son [Flynn, four].” Presently, that’s in Malibu, California.

Our unofficial guru of healthful living takes “the position I’m in” seriously. “When something is really working for me, it’s great to share so [others] might also benefit.” Kerr’s regimen: physical Hatha yoga, spiritual Kundalini yoga, Pilates and fresh air with Flynn, who can already meditate. “I’ll give him a little mantra to say in his head and he closes his eyes for three minutes straight! We bicycle, we trampoline – it’s good for the lymphatic system and the muscles.” Ta-dah: strong lingerie game.

“I love everything from pure white cotton to beautiful French lace. It’s where [an outfit] starts for me.”

RUBY ROSE

ACTOR, MODEL & TV PRESENTER, 29

Rewind to 2009, and Bonds had never done T-shirts before – and definitely never shot anyone like out-and-inked Ruby Rose. “It was a turning point,” she says. “I did get the gravity of representing that you can dress different, have spiked hair and tattoos, and be whatever sexuality you want.”

Rose was lensed with non-model mates who tagged their tees with Sharpies. “Together, we [showed] the ‘Aussie image’ is for everybody.”

Her tatt tally these days? “Now I’ve got, like, 60 – the most recent is the face of Jean-Michel Basquiat on my left arm.”

So what would Rose scrawl on her Bonds Chesty singlet now she’s 29, engaged to British fashion designer Phoebe Dahl and starring in season three of TV prison drama Orange is the new Black as “bad-ass, super-charismatic” inmate Stella Carlin? “Be happy. Be free,” she says. “That’s where I’m at. I’m in love with every day I wake up.”

RACHAEL TAYLOR

ACTOR AND MODEL, 30

“It’s ‘undies’, never ‘panties’ – that’s such a creepy word.” Rachael Taylor’s been busy Stateside, collecting credits from Grey’s Anatomy to Transformers for years, but swears: “I’m double-Australian because I’m from Tasmania – this accent’s going nowhere.”

Getting the call to work with Bonds back in 2010 “felt affectionate – like, ‘You’re an Aussie and you’ve made it,’” says Taylor, 30 (no relation to Elyse). “It was my modelling baptism of fire – straight to underwear.”

Currently learning “physical skills” for new Marvel TV series, A.K.A. Jessica Jones (she’s playing Patricia ‘Trish’ Walker who, in the comic series, becomes Hellcat), Taylor feels in superhero shape. “There were times when I was saying really unkind things to myself, [but now] I’m a fad-free kind of chick,” she says.

Uncomplicated is Taylor’s sexy. “I’m talking to you in my undies and [Bonds] Sloppy, from a studio with legit underwear models, and I feel like me.”

KELLY GALE

MODEL, 19

Chanel shows in Paris? Very impressive, dear. But get your face on a suburban bus shelter in Bonds undies, says model Kelly Gale, 19, and your Melbourne family will really lose it. “People stopped me in the street. My grandparents think it’s cool,” she laughs.

Bonds’ 2014 youth ambassador was born in Sweden to an Aussie dad and Indian mother and lived in Australia for a short while as a child. “I spend time [in Victoria] a lot – people look twice and ask if I’m the girl from Bonds.”

After high school, she moved to New York. “I’ve got my own place in Chelsea. Though I’m in San Francisco shooting Ralph Lauren, then St. Barts for Victoria’s Secret this week.” No big deal. “I play soccer and tennis – sporty bikini [briefs] and tanks are my thing.” Gran’s, too.
