Bata Shoe Museum explores history of sneakers dating back to 19th century
TORONTO - They're not just shoes Discount F50 Soccer Sale Online. From their historical beginnings in the 1800s, sneakers have become icons of urban culture.
In the 20th century they evolved into one of the most democratic forms of footwear around, says the Bata Shoe Museum, which is mounting what it calls the first exhibition in North America to showcase the history of sneaker culture.
"Out of the Box: The Rise of Sneaker Culture," on from April 25 to March 30, 2014, will showcase rare sneakers provided by Adidas, Nike, Converse, Puma and Reebok, as well as loans from rap legends Run DMC and "sneaker guru" Bobbito Garcia Nike Hypervenom Phantom Shoes For Sale.
Also featured are recent creations by fashion designers, including Christian Louboutin, Lanvin and Prada Adidas Nitrocharge Shoes.
One pair of running shoes dating from 1860-65 has small heels similar to men's dress shoes of the time, and spikes on the soles.
The link between sneakers and status dates back to the 19th century, said exhibition curator Elizabeth Semmelhack New Soccer Cleat For Sale.
"I am particularly interested in how sneaker culture today is intertwined with shifts in idealized masculinity and how, what I am calling, the sneakerfication of men's dress is defining these changes," Semmelhack said.
